We had fish in the past. We did a search and found a good article You may have fed too much of a surface food and now it's constipated so it's affected its swim bladder. Hopefully after floating for a while without eating it'll come around. Others have had their fish like this for a month!?! Fish got better after a change in food.

Please don't tap your tank HUH?

Hope this helps.

The stomach looks bloated. Try puncturing its stomach with a small sterilized needle, just one small puncture.

You mentioned you'd change the water, did you do it at one go? If you did, don't do that next time, change it a little at a time, over a few days.

Note: Puncturing the fish's stomach is like flashing your phone, do it at your own risk.

You are kidding right?, Tell me to do that to a machine or a car I don't mind I have worked with them before.

But putting a needle into a fish, I don't even know where it's stomach is. I wouldn't dare try that.

But yeah I changed it one go, usually my tank doesn't get this dirty, this time it was almost brownish-orange I don't know what my friend did.

It wasn't floating at the top of the tank it was on the bottom of the tank. But it is strange I have goldfish and I do feed them surface food but I don't see them do that.

Eitherway it's too late it didn't make it through the night. It's laying on it's side with it's eyes completely discolored. I

Thanks for the help though, The fish forum didn't even respond.  Crying

R.I.P.

Peace.

No.

Normally, when a fish is upside down, it's due to air got stuck inside it's stomach.

When it's not moving, it's not getting enough oxygen and it'll die. Puncturing it's stomach (to release the air) give it a chance to survive.

I don't even know where it's stomach is.

Don't do that next time.

It don't get dirty at one go, so fishes have time to adapt to it.

The same for the other way round, when changing to clean water from dirty, do it a little at a time, give the fishes time to get use it.

It's alright to let them be in the dirty water for some times. It was still active in the dirty water, right?

Use rain water (collected) is the best, but if it's not possible, keep the tap water overnight before putting into your tank.

R.I.P. fish.

I read some articles if it was air isn't it supposed to be floating near the top of the Tank?

Here it is at the bottom. It seems it was a combo of new food and too sudden of a water change that led to it's death, The term used was "Swimbladder disorders" due to Constipation, bacterial infection, or Water Quality problems.

I didn't take note at that one particularly there are two identical fish of this type and many other types in the tank, but yeah lesson learn't don't change it too fast. I don't like things dieing on me. Crying

What I did was Get a Tub Take out all the fish and put them in the tub Flushed the Tank, scrubbed it inside out, Cleaned the filter, and then fill it up again with tap water, added dechlorinate solution and then one by one put the fish back in the tank.

Then I fed em. I have been doing this for ages, there was never a problem. Well maybe once or twice, but I never saw a fish upside down at the bottom of the tank.

I don't mean to be prude, but why? I find it the only way to get them moving or stirred. does it distress them?

I live in the desert, rain is so unpredictable I would never see it growing up, but in recent years I have seen very erratic patterns. Rains cats and dogs over the night for 2 days then dust storm, then next day sunny. Right now it's a dusty day.

Peace.

Here it is at the bottom.

That depends on the weight of the fish. It's quite a big fish there.

Fill a small plastic bag 3/4 full of sand, fill the rest with air than put it into the water. You see.

It seems it was a combo of new food and too sudden of a water change that led to it's death, The term used was "Swimbladder disorders" due to Constipation, bacterial infection, or Water Quality problems.

Maybe.

I have been doing this for ages, there was never a problem.

Those are the days when your fishes are strong and healthy, but it just take one unlucky day when your fish might be a little sick. Then you add the stress to it by sudden change of water.

I don't mean to be prude, but why? I find it the only way to get them moving or stirred. does it distress them?

Not really sure, but some said the water is hard...Chlorine maybe?

Yes you added dechlorinate solution, but how effective was it and how fast will it remove the Chlorine? I don't know.

......., rain is so unpredictable.......................

......., keep the tap water overnight before putting into your tank.

I thought about that maybe the fish is to heavy compared to it's stomach and maybe that's why it's not floating but Google "freshwater fish upside down at the bottom of the tank" gives you Swimbladder disorder and alot of comments about separating it as it's near death.

I meant why shouldn't I knock on the Glass of the tank.

I took your points on changing water slowly. It makes sense.

Tapping on the tank - noise transmits through the water, bounces of tank wall and adds stress to the fish. In NA it's one of the first thing we teach kids when they are around fish tanks.

We used to put water in  pails (or tub) and leave them overnight before doing the switch, suck water off the bottom to clean the gravel but not mix into the tank too much. I once let the tank get really bad and changed out 3/4 of the tank. That's when I found out I'm allergic to fresh water aquariums - I had a 3 day asthma attack! We had Discus fish and clown loaches.

Sorry for your loss Sad

What's NA?

Yeah I guess you have to make mistakes to learn from them.

I will just have to take better care.
