Hello, I do not have a Samsung Galaxy S phone.  I'm about to upgrade from my current phone Lg Neon (booooo) lol.  I am torn between phones and what I am looking for is a smartphone that I can play flash content on, reasonable megapixels for the camera since I take a lot of photos of my toddler, and something that plays games.  These are the phones I am considering and trying to research to see which one is better:  HTC Inspire 4g, Samsung Captivate, Iphone 4, and a Sony Ericsson Vivaz.

If you have any thoughts PLEASE feel free to share them  Smile thank you!

Welcome Big Grin

It's good to see someone really evaluating before they go out and look at phones. It's so easy to hold and fall in love with a screen Smile If you want flash content, the iPhone will be out. I would only purchase an android phone with 2.2 already installed so that lets out the captivate. I think all of them would be good for photo quality and for playing games. Even though the Vivaz is running Symbian, it will be fine for the lifetime of the phone.

If flash isn't that important I would look at the captivate; the AMOLED screen is fantastic and the phone will feel great in hand.

Thank you for the response Happy, I had my heart set upon the Captivate before I found the other phones.  I hate that iphone doesn't support adobe flash, I heard that the HTC Inspire 4g is better than the Captivate just not the amoled screen and that it does have adobe flash on it.  I have yet to review it in person in the store lol.  The first phone I ever bought myself was the Samsung Impression, that stopped working and then I went to a pre-paid Gophone LG Neon which I hate now.  A total waste of $100 in my opinion.  Honestly I'm not jazzed on the Vivaz but its hell of a lot better than my Neon phone.

Only thing is I've scanned through posts of people complaining about things about the Captivate about it shutting off periodically, and it being uber slow.  I have yet to find ANY reviews on the HTC Inspire and I wish i could find some to help me in making a decision.

Some of the complaints about lag have to be taken with a grain of salt. If you don't plan on loading hundreds of apps you'll probably be ok. All computers pause while operating. My concern would be that the Captivate is not shipping with 2.2 and I'm not sure if an update is available. HTC does have good build quality but I've never been fond of sense. Not a deal breaker as you can load another launcher but I also like the extras that Samsung includes.

Id go for the Galaxy S Vibrant  Smile ..but thats my opinion. I love the phone. Dont know if it will come with the 2.2 update, but if you like to mess around with your phone like I do just watch this youtube vid and follow the easy instructions.

Ciao.

P.S Have a look at the specs for the Vibrant here..

If you can wait, why not go for the Galaxy S II Sticking out tongue ? [http://galaxys2.samsungmobile.com/html/feature.html]

Dunno when it'll be out though in the US. Might be in the next one or two months.

But the Galaxy S I is a very solid phone. It has a pretty AMOLED screen, very good camera [720p recording], fast, snappy, good battery life, can run any game the market throws at it and did i mention the screen? I'm very happy with it.

I don't think I have any complaints tbh, only maybe it's made of plastic and feels cheap.

Thanks for all the helps, I went with the Samsung Captivate and I'm happy as a clam.  Got some emulators on it and playing old school games ^_^

Kies is user hostile for some reason. When the time comes, read through the threads and try stuff to get your phone to connect. See if there is a link from your carrier information page.

I see alot of discussion with the I9000 or so but I have yet to find anything in regards to an SG-I897.  I've tried updating my phone but it says no update is avaiilable and the Samsung Kies Mini doesn't recognize my phone being connected :-/

Well since my last post/reply I figured I would see about trying to update the phone thru means of the official/unofficial froyo 2.2 leak.  So now my phone has froyo 2.2 on it Happy (gotta love youtube)  Big Grin.

Model Number:  Samsung-SHG-I897
Firmware Version:  2.2
Baseband Version:  I897UCJI6
Kernel Version:  2.6.32.9 jetaek.lee@sep-11 #1
Build Number:  Froyo.UCJI6

I found some...third party games and now I know I need to root the phone but a lil apprehensive about it.  Couldn't seem to open a folder? for the onestepclick root. Lol

Your Welcome, for the Yahoo vid for Froyo Smile Unless you didnt even read my post here. Anyways, as for 3rd party apps on your phone...First, go to the Android market and look for "Astro" and install it. Second, hook up your phone to your comp as "Mass Storage", create a "Folder" in your "Internal memory" (name it whatever you want). Third, drag whater apps you downloaded into the "Folder" you just created. Fourth, unplug phone, open "Astro" open "SDcard" find the "Folder you created" and open it, click on whatever app you have in there, click on "Open App Manager", then install.  Hope this helps Smile

Thanks for the tip and I did what you said down to the T, but when I used the open app manager (which i had before this ^_^) it says "Install Blocked:  For security, your phone is set to block installing of applications not obtained from Android Market."

Now what???  HUH?

Ok.  I have a SGS Vibrant but if your phone is anything like mine you can do this---Click "Settings", then "Applications", then Check mark UnKnown Sources (allow install of non-market applications) Should work. Smile
