Hi all,
I recently switched over from iPhone OS to Android OS, and picked the Samsung Galaxy S over the HTC Desire. The switch was basically a vote of confidence in the Android open-source philosophy over Apple's cult approach. Hence my 'disappointment' when I realized I cannot update the Galaxy S to the new firmware (at least through Kies).
I live in Cyprus at the moment and it seems that most Samsung phones arrive here through Greece. I followed the directions to update, but Kies insists that I am running the latest firmware. SO, two questions if anyone could please help:

1. any information about 2.2 being rolled out in Greece/Cyprus?
2. is there another safe way to update? (is it worth it?)

BTW, Firmware: PDA:I9000XWJM1 / PHONE:I9000XXJM1 / CSC:JM1 (CYV). I will appreciate any help or insight you might have. Thanks,

Chris

Hello and welcome to the forums!

For tips on how to use the phone check my signature below. If you have questions try search prior to posting since chances are, there's already a solution.

With regards to your question, updates are dictated by Samsung and your carrier. That said, some carriers release updates sooner than others and some carriers don't release updates at all. To make sure, check with your service provider.

There are other ways to update but this requires some internal "hacking." Check out the firmwares section of this site and judge for yourself whether it's worth it or not.
