can anyone tell me how to capture a screenshot on the SII?
i stumbled on holding power button then the home button but it seems a tad hit or miss.  Any help would be appreciated

its very easy. Press the home button(middle) and while holding the home button, press the power button once. it will capture

 stumbled upon that but ...

when i press / hold the home button what happens is that it opens a little window obscuring 1/2 the screen with 6 most recently used apps listed and task manager button below - pressing the power button takes screen image of this

bugger!

i have android 2.3.3

well im not sure about that recently opened app list. why dont you upgrade? current upgrade is :

Version : 2.3.6
Rom : XXKL1
Kernel : SuperCore 2.3.1

btw im using darky rom

It doesn't matter WHAT version you're running you still need to press the home button and then the power button.
