Hello Everyone,

I have a Samsung Galaxy S 2 and it's a superbe phone i love it.

Only problem is the volume when listening to Music or Watching videos with my headphones / headset connected is wayyyy too low mainly everything Media related even games etc...

Any way to increase the volume somehow ? i tried several apps in trial mod from the market that are supposed to boost the volume for the music but they where completely useless apps.

Volume from the built-in speaker seems to be high enough for a phone.

Also check the post here were u have to enter the special code on the keypad but i guess this is only for the incall volume as i tried playing around a bit (and restored all settings to their default values) but didn't notice any change on the media.

So any idea? or maybe there's some settings in this secret menu specially for the Media audio output on the headset?

Thx

Hi Guys

i REFER TO : while on headset, incoming call very soft or low BUT music playing just perfect.
actually, it does not really help if we maximise the media volume, it is still terribly unacceptable.

It is confirmed NOW that we can adjust this flaw (hope they fix it up soon with a new bios upgrade) by using the

<<<courtesy of Trev (eforum team)>>>
Enter this number *#*#197328640#*#* ON YOUR PHONE KEYPAD
This will open the service mode menu.
Select option [5] AUDIO
Select option [1] NB (VOICE CALL)
Select option [2] HEADSET
Select option [1] Volume
Select option [1] SRC Speech RX Volume
Select option [5] 5_lvl : 87

--> click it and it asks for INPUT
--> here you can change to 100 (that is the maximum)
{ to enter the number, press the "menu" key and choose "key input". After you have entered your number, you MUST use the MENU--->choose BACK}
{never never use our usual "go back" U-TURN key on the right hand side - it will not save your data}
--> Just 1 back will do because we need to set 3 more items.

Next goto [5]Sidetone : 0x0
it asks for input. goto MENU-->KEY INPUT and enter 35 (that is ideal but some prefer 32).
This one it auto go back to the previous page
NEXT DO THE SAME FOR [6]I2s1 Rx Gain
repeat the process above and enter 35
NEXT [7] I2S1 GAIN :
repeat the process above and enter 35

NEXT COMES THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP TO SAVE IT
Use the MENU-->SELECT BACK..and repeat MENU-->BACK (continuously until you reached the PHONE KEYPAD). Now your data is saved.
* you dont need to reboot the set.
** if you goback to the SERVICE MENU, you will see that [5], [6] and [7] will be back to 0 AGAIN!!! no idea why. However, if you do not enter into the individual item, it still remembers the last input. If however, if for some reason, it has adopted "0", then you will find that other side cannot hear you and neither can you hear the other side, while with your HEADSET ON.
DONT PANIC!!!!. repeat the steps above and remember to use MENU--BACK AND REPEAT ALL THE WAY TO THE KEYPAD

good luck..until we have a permanent software BIOS fix from samsung (i hope they do it fast before it affects their IMAGE!!!!)

This is basically a repost of what I wrote several months ago @ http://www.samsunggalaxysforum.com/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-help-desk/headset-in-call-volume

The problem still persists; that is if you reboot your unit for some reason, the new settings are gone and you have to redo the whole process once again.

This is not very good advice. I tried this on my unrooted Galaxy SII; after I changed the sidetone values as posted above, I kept hearing my own voice whenever a call connected. Only when I used the speaker, the echo was absent. Rebooting the phone appeared to change the other audio volume settings to default values, but not the sidetone settings. There was no way to fix this since no option for resetting to defaults for the *#197328640# service menu is available (yet). I changed values for sidetone several times, in all ranges, even using hex codes, but failed to get rid of the echo. Finally, I did a factory hard reset using *2767*3855# (FULL Reset; EVERYTHING wiped) after backing up contacts etc thru Kies; my phone audio is back to normal (low but no echo at least!) now. Point of note, Factory Reset through Privacy settings did not fix the issue.

The 0x32 sidetone default that Kian refers to is actually in the Bluetooth volume settings, not in the Headset Volume (which is 0x0, even after you change it, so no clue what it actually is).

Bottomline, do NOT touch sidetone settings for anything. From what I can see, since sidetone is a feedback mechanism for controlling the user's voice volume, these settings would not make any appreciable difference in the output volume in media or calls.

That said, Aje's post at http://www.samsunggalaxysforum.com/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-help-desk/headset-in-call-volume/msg22682/#msg22682 is a good fix; does what it says--increases volume--as long as you don't fiddle with the values for sidetone.

I haven't rooted my Galaxy S2 since I'm wary of running Odin on Linux; so I can't locate the settings file for the service codes in my phone. It would be very helpful if someone could save and post a file with default settings for future reference!

Hey just a heads up for people looking into this problem. Some of you may have figured this out right away but I was tempted to start fiddling with these settings before I checked my headset. It turns out that if the headset (the one that includes the mic) is inserted all the way in, you will get very very poor audio quality. Try pulling it a little so that it does not go all the way in and see if that improves sound. (3ple contact plug).
It did in my case. Might not be yours, but it is something worth trying before you mess around with something else or purchase an app.
Just my 2 cents.

Yep...messed up my phone with the side tone thing. Now I can hear echo of my own voice. I hope somebody can find a fix for this or the original value of the sidetone. I do not want to do a factory reset as Ive already rooted/upgraded the firmware so it's a big hassle to do it all over again, although it's not that hard. Just the hassle of arranging my contacts and all, reinstalling some apps. Crying

So anyone out there who can help?

Note: Don't meddle with the sidetone.

AT&T Galaxy S2 here...also annoyed with the low earphone volume.

Tried the "trick" above, the problem is it won't let me go into the (5) Audio section - it simply refreshes and brings me back to the Main Menu.

Anyone else?

Whatever you do with those code mention above. DO NOT CHANGE THE VALUE OF "SIDETONE". You can do the following

<<<courtesy of Trev (eforum team)>>>
Enter this number *#*#197328640#*#* ON YOUR PHONE KEYPAD
This will open the service mode menu.
Select option [5] AUDIO
Select option [1] NB (VOICE CALL)
Select option [2] HEADSET
Select option [1] Volume
Select option [1] SRC Speech RX Volume
Select option [5] 5_lvl : 87

--> click it and it asks for INPUT
--> here you can change to 100 (that is the maximum)
{ to enter the number, press the "menu" key and choose "key input". After you have entered your number, you MUST use the MENU--->choose BACK}
{never never use our usual "go back" U-TURN key on the right hand side - it will not save your data}

--> You can stop right here. I can solve my volume problem at this point. In my case, I went further and did the rest of the suggested steps... it messed up my phone with echo problem.

Go to Home/Menu/Settings/Sound/Volume/Media slider to the right.

This setting is also controlled by the rocker on the left side of the Galaxy when using the Music player.

It also sets the maximum volume of your phone calls.

Hopefully useful..
