How do I force this OS to use the wifi and not my 3g connection?

As it is I can't see what it's using to connect to the internet, it's not telling me or giving any notifications!

How do I change this?

You can turn off the 3g connection and the cell connection. That'll force the issue.

But how? I an see where you force 2g over 3g but nothing there allows you to turn them off that I can see.

Go to Menu --> Settings --> Wireless & Networks and uncheck Mobile Network. That should do it.

Uncheck what under mobile networks?, i've got data roaming, access point names, use 2g and network operators.

That's it.

Not in mobile networks. Just above it should be an option to shut off all mobile networks.

Oh, I think your refering to flight mode, ok that works.

But there must be another way to do this, I thought Android was mean to be a good OS, at least with symbian it always asked me and gave the choice of available wifi and orange internet.

Ok I just read that whenever wifi is connected it will not use 3g for internet access, is this true?  if there an app to monitor internet access and what the phone is using to access it?

I really want to confirm this. lol

Test your speed.  Have wi-fi off, then have the wi-fi on.  You should see a speed difference, and that should confirm that you are using the wi-fi.  AFAIK nearly all global carriers allow you to use wi-fi without having to turn off the data connection, I think they used to try to keep the data always on in South Korea because of the high rates but that is changing now.

I agree with the idea and wrote an article about it:

Loba mentioned about the apndroid on the Market... but I never got my 3G back on... Crying  I just reboot it back up.

If you are connected to a wi-fi signal (look for the icon at the top of your screen) the Galaxy S is suposed to use this automatically rather than your phone network, read something about it somewhere, works on my phone.
