I was using google maps today I tried exiting the app but the phone completely froze up for so I pulled the battery. I put the battery back in and turned the phone back on. The phone gets the the Galaxy S intro but it hangs there for about a minute, then the screen goes black. If I touch the screen after that the Menu, Home, Back, and Search buttons light up and stay lit up, but the phone does nothing.

I was going to try and do a factory reset but I cant get into that menu (holding volume down and turning the phone on), it just starts up and does the same lock up as I described above.

My phone is rooted and I have RyanZA's lag fix installed.

How can I fix this?

I think it's volume UP, home and power for the reset.

If you can't do the vol up|home|power thing you're hooped and it has to go in for repair.

I am having this same boot problem and it all started after i installed the android 2.2 update. it started running really choppy right away and the next day i was having force closings on google maps and i think it said google background or something. i tried to send a text message after this and it said the text message app was not responding and it force closed on me like 5 times so i shut off the phone and that was the last time it worked. i called tech support and i was able to get into the boot screen i reset the factory defaults and cleared the cache and still no phone start. i brought it to the bell store and the girl said that i was the fourth person of the day to have this happen to me i live in a small town so it sounds like the canada release of 2.2 is having some issues what can i do to get my phone up and running

Take it to Bell to be sent in. That's all you can do.

Thanks its in transit to the repair shop now I'm tracking it on the bell site. i hope they reutrn it with 2.2 on it and working correctly with a permanent fix cause this sd card issue now that i research is pretty widespreed. but im not sure what to do cause my girlfriend has a galaxy s too and she is weary about upgrading to 2.2 fearing her phone will crash too, should she upgrade her phone and hope for the best or leave it be. cause the way it sounds this sd card fault is always there and the 2.2 upgrade is just bringing the problem to the surface

If she's happy with how it's working, I would leave it for now.

Since you're going to the repair shop, why not bring her along and let them upgrade for her?

I upgraded mine about a week ago, it's not rooted or anything.  it worked fine until this morning so it wasn't an instant problem or anything which is very weird(also my problem didn't start with Google...i don't use google maps)

today it is having the same problem as everyone else here, black screen, the buttons on the bottom light up but no other response.

this phone is a paper weight now.

guess I have to bring it in to Bell to be sent off to no mans land for 6-8 weeks....a guy I know had to send his 3 times until they eventually gave him a new phone after he kicked and screamed enough for it..i hope it doesn't come to that with mine.  I have no patience for this crap.

*frustrated with this Samsung PoS*
