I have a Samsung Glaxy S Plus i9001 running Gingerbread 2.3.3.

I have Skype installed but i have a problem with the sound. The person i am phoning can see and hear me without any problems, i can see them ok but i can hardly hear their voice, the sound is very, very low. The problem has to be something to do with the phone settings, or a hardware issue, as i have skyped several contacts and get the same problem every time.

Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

PS. normal phone call quality is fine

Thanks in advance

Regards
SuperAli

I'm not familiar with the skype app,  so not sure if the in-call volume or media volume controls the skype calls.  But to be sure,  make a normal telephone call and during call make sure the volume is full, both normal and loud speaker.  Then open the music player,  start a song and turn volume up full to ensure media volume is at max.  Then try a skype call again.

Thanks, i've checked the in call volume and the media volume, both are set to max. Even when i'm skyping someone the ringing tone before they pick up is very very low, so the problem is apparant even before the reciever takes the call.

Ok, got it sorted. During the call i need to press the speakerphone button in order to access the speakerphone function.

As i was always video calling, i was automatically holding the phone out at arms legnth so the reciever could see my through the front facing camera, but without realising i needed to activate the speaker phone. I had pressumed this would come on automatically during a video call. Seems rather strange that it does not, why would anyone make a video call and then hold the phone to their ear?
