Apps running would definitely bring the battery down, specially if they're something that will look for a connection.  I almost took my phone to the service center (still think Imight get it checked out) but things improved dramatically when I did these few things.

1. Set brightness way down low --anyway it's too bright
2. Removed any live wallpaper like things.
3. Disconnected wifi and gprs whenever I wasn't using it.I used an app called APN on/off to do that
4. Stopped social apps from updating on their own wherever possible
5. Used Advanced Task Killer (for a while)
6. Got an app called MySettings and turned off Auto Sync now and then (don't really know if it makes a difference).

All the same, if I play around with stuff a lot and browse etc, the battery begins to evaporate. But all these measures helped at least keep the battery free for calls. Before this I was afraid I'd go somewhere and not have battery left enough for any important or emergency calls!

Advanced task killer not recommended.

Number 3 is the best option

My Galaxy S after updating to Froyo is now more hungry than ever. Got a 5000mh bat inside  and at the end of one days usage I have only a quarter of my power left. Crazy.

I would like to know more about your batteries guys...
I might have problems with mine...

I charged it yesterday, 16:23 PM and now at 10:52, I have 44% left, and I only talked 12 minutes and nothing else.

Power saving is on
Brightness is auto
Background data is off
Auto syns off

Do you think it might be something wrong with it?

Is your wifi off?

If you are on froyo. Make sure data network mode is off. If you are on eclairs try apndroid.

Also GPS, keep that off, till you need it.

i can use my phone 2-3 days with normal use - ~20min phone calls , 10-15min wifi , 1hour - angry birds. When i use it only for calls the battery stay charged for 3-4days.
When using wifi 2-3hours lasts 1 day Happy
