My phone uses 40% of its battery through ONE night, standby (even though Wifi, bluetooth, 3G, etc. are disabled). Is this normal? Thank you for every answer Happy

If you're sure all connections are off, then it's probably some apps still running in the background. I suggest you get a task manager to shut down whatever's running. You'll be surprised when you see the stuff that's open in the background.

Here's what  I have noticed...

Sync and background sync disabling dont effect mail syncing... I usually manually disable mail sync from SGS email program and select account and there set sync to never.
Also that dont stop network connections totally even if you dont have any programs running (in Active applications). SGS tries to force keep data connetion open.
Also noticed that some program send some data packets to mtalk.google.com?
Good way to save battery is what I do for nights:
-turn off wifi/bluethooth/GPS
-turn off sync and sync background
-turn off internet apn

We (a few colleagues and me) have noticed that data is responsible for alot of power usage.

Therefore we do the same as umeet here above, only I've put it into a widget
since we didn't find an app which does all at one click.

So now if I go to bed I click the widget, it turns off everything (wifi/BT/internet apn) that was on.
(and remembers the current state of all settings)
In the morning I click the widget again and everything that was enabled previously will be turned on again.

Instead of 14% battery usage it dropped to about 4% overnight

Some people argue on the fact that, due to the materials used in the battery, it is its nature to under perform when new.

The battery needs to 'break-in' first before it could reach optimum performance, and by 'break-in' it simply means the battery must go through few charging cycles, only then, we could see a
decent performance from our SGS battery.

Most of us owned SGS for few months, I'm sure our batteries already went through or completed its 'break-in' period, so, do you notice your battery performance is getting better / decent performance?

I just used my phone right now. I noticed that my battery went down for 1% every 2 or 3 text messages. Is this acceptable?

Is anyone experiencing this? My brand new Galaxy S has a battery that drains out in a couple of hours, even if it's just sitting there. For example, I topped it up last night, and by the time I woke up, it was down by 75 percent. The remaining 25 percent went over two minutes of messaging. There were no active applications, gps is off, and power saver mode is on. The battery usage stats show screen taking up 47% --- when it was lying there doing nothing at nigt. Idle and standby too take up batter. That leaves nothing for actual use!

Any help, anyone?

Welcome:D  Please check out the forum rules. Also check out the how to thread for some great tips or use the search function so see if someone’s asked your question before.

And there has been some discussion on battery life. First is did you fully charge your battery before starting to use your phone? Is there 2 G and 3G in your area? It takes battery life to keep looking for the signal and I think I read 3G is more power hunger.

Just a couple suggestions.

There are task managers that show both but they all normally only "kill" the non-essential apps.

When I first got my galaxy S, I recall that it would connect from time to time to the network even if I had my email apps etc set to manual update. What I did was install apn on/off and that was that. The new froyo update gives you a similar function to turn off radio network connection. This coupled with setting auto sync to off improved my battery life tremendously.

I manually update the apps I want to update since it only takes a short time anyway. So, it's not that big a deal.

Just got a Galaxy S for my girl last week.
US Cellular

I have an iPhone 4 which I love but this Galaxy phone is freakin Awesome!!!!!!!

Any ways we have a battery problem.

After a full charge overnight-the battery is left with 1 bar by 5-6pm with normal usage.
her old balckberry lasted until at least 9-10pm with 2 bars left.

so last night she woke up at midnight after charging the phone and it said full charge, so she disconnected it.

By 7a when she woke, she had one bar left. the phone was in sleep mode

She checked and only 2 apps were running in the background

The Samsung site says 450hrs of sleep time and we only got 7 hours.

I suspect a bad battery but US Cellular says it was the apps running that killed the phone.

give me your feedback so I can figure out how to handle this.

Thank you
