SIM cards traditionally can only store one name and one phone number per entry:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subscriber_Identity_Module#SMS_messages_and_contacts

Modern SIM cards may have several GB of storage, but I don't know if the SIM card data storage format has been extended to allow storing more complex contact information. It seems hard to find the corresponding standardization documents...

I love my phone but there are a few things I wish I could change, my friend got the samsung wave and its a fab phone she is so happy with it.  I had a messa round with it also and its top quality.
She took a photo of me and then saved it to her contacts in her phone book so when I call her my photo comes up and I thought I would do the same fwith mine somehow cus it does have a symbol with a face but for some reason cant save anything.

She took a photo of me and then saved it to her contacts in her phone book so when I call her my photo comes up and I thought I would do the same fwith mine somehow cus it does have a symbol with a face but for some reason cant save anything.

Do as follows:

1. Bring up Contacts
2. Press the Menu button (button on the lower left below the display)
3. Select "Options"
4. Select "Copy Contacts"
5. Select "SIM to Phone"
6. Let the contacts be copied
7. Press the Menu button again
8. Select View Settings
9. Uncheck "SIM Card" and press OK"

Voila! You now have all the contacts in your phone and can now have multiple phone numbers per contact, e-mail, street, web addresses, birthdays, anniversaries - oh and of course, PHOTOS:

10. Hold your finger on the contact you want to add a photo to
11. In the popup menu, select "Edit"
12. Press the outlined face in the upper left of the contact details
13. Press "Album" if you already have a photo of that person, or "Take Photo" to take a photo
14. After you're done adding the photo, press "Save"
15. Your contact now has a photo that will show when you call the person, or the person calls you.

BTW, my 3 year old cheapo SonyEricsson mobile phone already had that feature. Nothing novel about it anymore...

Regarding the photo icon in the contact menu, it's a shame that it is so SMALL !

With such a big screen, why did they need to limit the size of the photo to 1 sq cm ?

BTW, there is an application (contact widget) that enables you to have on your home screen the photo (s) of frequent contact (s). You just click on it and from there you can call or send an sms or an e-mail, directly !

Bruno I didnt want to put all my contacts to the phone I wanted to keep them on the sim, how about if the phone broke and I lost my contacts least them being on the sim I can put the Sim in another orange phone.  Is this the only way I can have photos by saving all my contacts to the phone and not the sim?

How about syncing your contacts with Google Contacts via your Gmail account since the SIM option is very restrictive ? You can do that in Settings -> Accounts and sync

Another way to get a photo into your contacts is as follows.  Contacts=>long press a contact=>choose album, then select the photo you want to use.
