Well not entirly randomly. It's always when I don't use it for an extended period of time. Like a couple of hours or something like that.

Last night I set an alarm on the phone and it never went off!!! I looked at my phone when I finally got up, now two hours late for work, and realized that the phone was off!!! Any ideas???

Phone: Captivate - Just got it a couple of days ago from Amazon.com. (Through Amazon/ATT partnership thing. It was a brand new phone)

Any ideas???

Thanks!

Check what programs you have installed. I had weatherbug (free) and it seemed to lock up sometimes - especially if I tried to stop it from updating automatically.

I wonder which region of phone you have. It happens a LOT with the Hong Kong international version (i9000). I asked about it before on other forums, and a guy said his South East Asian Galaxy S also freezes up, so we thought maybe it was something to do with the South East Asian versions.

My galaxy S always shut down automaticly recently. Especially After I charged the battery. I have to turn it on at least sit times per day. How could I solve this problem ?

Try uninstalling the last app you added before this problem started.

it seems not work. It happened when I updated one of the app one day, then automatically shutdown every day.
I already removed most every app. Still show down itself!

What app did you updated before this happened?

Do you mind a Factory-Reset?

My wife and I have both been having this same issue with our Galaxy S Vibrants from Bell in Canada.  Haven't had much luck with technical support yet, but with a bit of searching on the net you find out this is a somewhat common issue.

I've had mine for a few weeks and the only time it acted like it was shutting down (actually it was locked up) was when I had the free weatherbug version installed  Undecided  My sister-in-law has one and she's never had a problem (but she hasn't added much) What do you both have installed? I was reading on another forum that lagfix can be twitchy.

I have the free WeatherBug installed but my wife doesn't so I can rule that out as the cause of our problem.  Neither of us have ever installed the lag fix.

I am also having this problem. I have the Bell version.

I'm not sure if it locks up or if it shuts down since most of the time it happens when the screen is in sleep mode. Has anyone had luck from support yet? Do you think this will get fixed in the next firmware update?

I talked to Bell again this morning and was told this time that this is a known issue and Samsung is working on a fix.  However he could not tell me when the fix would be available.  Since I had upgraded the phone to the latest firmware there was nothing else Bell could do except send my phone for repairs.  The problem is likely a firmware issue though, so sending it away for repairs when there was no fix didn't make much sense to me.  Therefore, I am left to wait for a new firmware update.

I am also with Bell canada. I am on my second SGS from them. The first one tunred off all the time, so I returned it. Now this one is doing the same thing. Its a very common problem. I am tempted to return this phone as well, but im sure that third would have the same problem.
