Seepher the Problem stems from the Canadian Carrier's ROM, you need to simply update the ROM with JL2 as corey170 has provided an official Link.

If you still have questions, please feel free to ask away.

Peace.

I am having issues with my Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate 3G turning off on it's own---only way to turn it back on is to take out the battery.  I just bougth the phone 2 days ago.

It happens, from what I've noticed, in areas with little to no reception.  A friend of mine says thats just the way the phone is.

I noticed a few people posted something about upgrading to 2.2 JL2 or froyo to solve this problem--should this help?!  If so, how the heck do I do it?  I have downloaded kies for my computer, if that helps.  I do not understand phone jargon at all.

Fascinate is NOT THE SAME as the Vibrant. Do not update to the JL2 out for the Vibrant as it is the incorrect ROM! Please make sure you update thru Kies to get the correct ROM.

The thread that you have posted in is quite stale... the issue that we were experiencing was solved when Bell (Canada) released updated firmware to resolve the issue.

Maybe start a new thread or search for one in the Galaxy S2 section of this site.

My phone also started randomly shutting down since updating with 2.3.3
Phone is on T Mobile - UK
Tried full reset from scratch still the same
Just been advise by a local repair shop that it may have to be reflashed or may need a new battery either way i'm gonna have to throw money at it

TBH i may just ring the insurance and tell them it fell in the sink

If you search the net loads of people with smasung phones in general are having problems with this and its still not been solved

Problem first started after updating with Keis

Tried new battery - Nope
Repair shop checked the update and re-nstalled - still the same
Then they wiped and re-installed everything from scratch - still the same
Now its gone off to Samsung - but i expect it will return with the same fault.

What i should have done was ask them to return it back to original operating system before Gingerbread - thats the only onther thing to try

Its got to be a software issue - i never had a single problem before the update and judgiing by other forums its not only the Galaxy S thats having the same problem the rest of the Samsung smart phones are too.

I love Samsung and would be last person to buy an I Phone but i'm getting pulled damn close to the fence now.

I am convinced it's a fault with the battery.

I have been experiencing this spontaneous reboot problem for a while and could never figure out what  was causing it - a rogue app or firmware bug?   I am using a stock unbranded SGS2, not rooted or flashed.

Day before yesterday the problem got worse than ever, shutting down or rebooting almost every half an hour.

I have a spare non-Samsung battery and on an instinct I took out the OEM one and used the clone.  Reboots and shutdowns have stopped, period.

I know that the SGS2 batteries re not lumps of metal - they have firmware that controls their charging and discharging so they never go completely flat, which damages them.  Seems to me there is a problem with the battery firmware - which no repair facility will ever find, because when you send your phone in to be repaired they always (?)  tell you to keep the battery!

I am pretty sure this is right and I hope it helps someone.  I am going to post this info wherever people are moaning about it - I haven't seen it named yet as a  theory.
