I had it couple time after I updated yesterday but went through and checked all my setting and turned off most of the updating stuff. Seems to happen after I've had it rubbing in a pocket.

I got my phone about a month ago and it shut off twice in the first month, but it's shut off 6 times in the past 3 days.  Yesterday it shut off, so I restarted it, and as soon as I locked the screen and went to unlock it again, it had shut off again. This happened this morning as well.  I haven't downloaded anything new in the past 2 weeks, so I don't know what could be causing this.  I was tempted to go into Bell and tell them about it so I could possibly get the phone replaced, but I'm worried they'll just give me another phone with the same problem.  But I can't deal with my phone CONSTANTLY shutting off.

I talked to Bell again this morning and was told this time that this is a known issue and Samsung is working on a fix.  However he could not tell me when the fix would be available.

I'm also with Bell... this is their typical BS. My previous phone was an iPhone and I had horrendous issues with network connectivity amongst other things. In almost the exact same words you have just used, Bell told me the same thing about my iPhone and said that Apple was working on it. This went on for six months - no one ever contacted me to inform me of any progress and the problem continued. Sometimes when I would call back, I would get the same story; other times, I was told it was NOT an known issue at all. Apple of course, claims to know nothing of the issue. Anyway, this is off topic in regards to this thread, but just to inform that this is a line that I think Bell feeds us.

Back to the current topic, I now have a Galaxy Vibrant and yes, I have also experienced random or intermittent "shut downs". Sometimes, I think it is extreme lagging as I will open an app and the screen will go black... indefinitely!

It seems that so many people have this problem. Me too! I updated my software on Sep. 22, but the randomly shuts off still haven't been solved. Have to waiting for the next update availability?

At irregular intervals my phone appears to switch itself off. Model is GT-I9000 and build number ECLAIR.BOJG3. This is not due to battery being drained, and appears to be completely random. Anyone else have this problem or any solutions?

It does not appear random to me. It seems to happen in areas with low reception.

And it only appears to be affecting phones in Western Canada on Bell, as far as I can tell.

If you read through the thread it also happens with phones from other countries.

Last night I turned off the automatic updates and back ground updating and today my phone started freezing and the battery ran down much quicker - I suppose that could be due to reboots but it could also be due to an app trying to access the network, not getting there and freezing the phone. Since my ROM is branded it could be how Bell sets the phone up. You have to have a data plan and routine use does not run it out.

Well, it seems it's nothing to do with Western Canada (beautiful country), since my problem is in Germany (provider T-Mobile) and I have read about another with the same issue in the UK (Vodafone). I don't have Weatherbug installed, but would still appreciate it if an expensive phone didn't shut itself down randomly. Interested in further suggestions.

If I tap the top back side of the phone the phone will turn off.  Is this a defect?  It gets annoying.  Also, bluetooth ear piece doesn't work but works fine on my Ifon 3gs.  What's the deal this thing seems too buggy.

My wife and I have both been having this same issue with our Galaxy S Vibrants from Bell in Canada.  Haven't had much luck with technical support yet, but with a bit of searching on the net you find out this is a somewhat common issue.

I also have a Bell Vibrant, that sometimes turns it self off.

I hadn't paid me bill, and I had my account restricted for maybe 1 day. When I had it unrestricted, my phone keeps switching off. Ive turned it off and removed the battery, but still no good. Any ideas??

Hello All

I’ve had my phone since Sept 18 and I do love it…when it’s not in a coma! I put the phone in its carry case and when I took it out it was “off”. Press the ON/OFF button…nothing. Finally I figured out that if I held the ON button down for 10 seconds the phone would “restart”. It does this constantly. It never charges properly because it keeps going coma during the charge and nothing happens…it’s like it’s crashing. I loaded the latest firmware…still does it. I wiped the phone…still does it. Do a Google search for “Galaxy S shuts down!” or “Galaxy S turns off!” Tons of people are having this issue.

So, what’s wrong and when can we expect a patch or fix! I can’t have a phone that crashes on me. I am missing important calls, text and I can’t babysit it while it charges! Mine seems not to crash if I keep waking it up constantly, but, put it on the bedside table to charge…no way, it’ll never happen! Within 20 minutes it has crashed into a coma.

Husband is taking it back to Best Buy, Cambie Street, Vancouver today, but I see that many people are on their 2nd or 3rd phone and it’s still happening. I’m wondering why this hasn’t gone public as it is a really serious flaw in the phone! Answers anyone? Help! Like I said, I love the phone but as it stands now I can’t keep it if it won’t stay on!

PS I've read lots of people who are thinking it's one app or another, a screen saver, GPS and so on. My phone has done this out of the box, so I really don't think it's an app. The only thing we all seem to have in common is that it happens when the signal strenght is low. At home I only get 1 or 2 bars and it "seems" to happen at home 99% of the time. I have not noticed it happen when I am in town, or where there is stronger reception.

Why, how or what would cause this to happen? I've always loved my Samsung phones but this just stinks. I'll keep reading and have posted this on the Facebook Samsung Fan site. Hope it's fixed soon...can I really be saddled with this dud for the next 3 years! My contract is with BELL!

Ok sorry this is long.
