i am using a brand new samsung galaxy s, 8 gigs of memory, no additional sd card, pre-installed froyo
i am using it a lot, i have wi-fi @ home and i have 500MB/month to spend while i'm away
i am always connected to yahoo mail, yahoo messenger, facebook
my screen is set to change it's intensity automatically, and it has a screen protection covering the sensor (dont know if that's relevant)

when i bought this phone, i thought that the 1 Ghz processor would move incredibly fast
especially cuz my last mobile phone, a nokia e71 had a processor of only 369 MHz
now, after 2 weeks of using it, i am a bit dissapointed
there are certain applications (like facebook/yahoo mail) that make the phone freeze for 20-30 seconds (sometimes even more)
is there any way of avoiding that?
i tried uninstalling all the apps that i didnt like, and erasing all my emails (~8000 of them Sticking out tongue ) from my yahoo inbox and i think it's a little bit better (or i am getting used to it  Undecided )
also, i think that since the screen uses most of the "juice" in the battery, if i could avoid these freezes, my battery would last more than 8-10 hours
any advices are more than wellcomed!
thx a lot in advance

The yahoo email app doesn't work well on SGS. Removing that and using the social hub instead my resolve that freezing issue.

1. The 'phone freezing' problem is experienced by many and I don't know how to solve that for you legally. I do have one method which you may try at your own risk. Root your phone then install Darky's ROM v8.0. Its a custom ROM and it solved my freezing problem. Apps open more quickly as well. However, rooting your phone voids warranty so think twice before doing that.

2. Your 8~10hours of battery life is pretty normal for medium usage. May I suggest getting a higher capacity battery or a power pack? There are 3500mah batteries out there which work great. Look it up.

Add yahoo mail in Samsung email app. You just put your username and password in and the samsung email automatically connects to your account and makes it available to the social hub.

@ValkyrieSB9
i'd rather do nothing to void the warranty... hapefully the gingerbread update will solve some of my problems
about the battery pack, i googled a bit and all i could find was some overpriced junk made in china or on some boad
i preffer to charge the battery 2x/day
btw, how harmfull would that be to the original battery pack? and how about charging from the usb port on my laptop? is that different from charging from the wall socket?
(sorry for the noob questions, but i've only used nokia up untill now - with nokia, data cable is data only, no charging involved)

@casz
yeah, that's what i originally thought, but, unfortunatelly, the default server/port settings werent the right ones
if u'll check my previous post, u'll see the ones that actually work (at least in my case)
however, now that i have the gmail and the yahoo mail accounts on the "email" app, the social hub looks exactly the same, no other accounts/settings added
with the "yahoo mail" app out of the way, i really dont care about social hub
thx anyway

@andreistanro hmm could you please send me a link to the battery that you found? I have a friend using that battery and it works perfectly for him. Not very expensive as well at around USD 10. You could wait for the Gingerbread update but as I know that update isn't a major one so if Froyo didn't fix many of your problems you shouldn't put high hopes on Gingerbread. I'll lookout for legal fixes for the lag and keep you posted.

Edit: And about the battery. Charging with the USB and the wall socket charger has little or no difference. As for the harm charging twice a day does to the battery... Over a long period of time the battery will definitely decrease in capacity as it's worn out but you charge it twice a day which should be enough use for 24hrs so you don't really have to worry about that first. To me the lag seems more important so you should probably fix that area first.

this 1250mAh batt pack is cheaper, a little bit over 10 EUR

http://www.baterie-shop.ro/BATTERIEINFO/Acumulator%20compatibil%20Samsung%20Galaxy%20S/1.80.SAM.22.2

this 3000mAh battery pack costs 25+ EUR

http://www.baterie-shop.ro/BATTERIEINFO/Acumulator%20compatibil%20Samsung%20Galaxy%20S%203000mAh/1.80.SAM.22.3

delivery costs an additional 5 EUR

i'll keep looking, but i won't probably bother buying another one untill this one is really dead.

w/o the "yahoo mail" app, the phone is much better, freezes are almost gone, other apps work a lot faster  Big Grin

i am however interested in other things that could turn my phone into the miraculous machine that i hoped for when i bought it, so thank u very much for your replies

keep in touch

thx a lot for good intentions, they are most appreciated  Smile

however, i will not take this deal, because, on one hand, the Total Price is $9.47 x 3 + $31.79 =$60.20 (for my country), and second, the back cover looks like crap (excuse my french)... the shape and the quality of the plastic is nowhere near the ones of the original

another thing i discovered and i wanna share w/ everybody

last night i fully-charged my phone, and when i went to sleep, i deactivated the wi-fi and the data network mode
this morning (after 7 hours of stand-by) the battery was showing 100%  Shocked
w/ wifi+network, the battery would have been at 60% (i tried that too)

draw ur own conclusions

edit: strangely enough - 2 hours+, 100% (see attach)
edit 2: after 30 minutes of using it (IM, email, talking, etc) - down to 95%

also, for the last couple of days i had no problems with the battery, lasted me trough the day, still had ~25-30% when i charged it after 18 hours of using the phone w/o any restrictions

all i did lately was to set the screen to lowest intensity - it's still very bright, maybe 90% of what it was on auto

it did the trick for me, no more worries about the battery, no more carring around a second phone, just in case  Smile

cheers
