personalise notification ringtone

how can i record and use recording as tone to receive messages?

thanks chris but i meant for message tone when receiving messages. thanks for the ringtone advice though.

thanks but i know how to change the message tone, but i would like to record a personal one then set it as message tone like you can do for a ringtone. maybe it just cant be done.

to everyone who has done the following steps and NOT been ale to hear the notification tone they selected:
it was giving me problems until i tried selecting the notification tone from the sms menu.
instead of doing menu>display and sounds>notification tone
make sure you go to your text messages then do the sub menu function from there and scroll to the bottom to select your tone there.
for some reason this made a difference for the phone and was the sole reason why it would not playback the tones i selected.
hope this helps anyone who was in my situation!
