Hi Folks,
This is probably a very simple problem to solve,
but after a couple of days of trying various methods i still have the same problem

(failing that it is a bug-riddled mess like the current version of Kies  Evil )

Having onl.y recently purchasing my galaxy S,
i am having the same old problem with retaining my old emails (mainly those received),
as it seems to delete them approximately 9-12 hours after receipr.

Is there any way i can stop the Galaxy deleting and automatically purging old emails?

This was not a problem previously on my old Blackberry -
as the delete/purge was set based on a period of time or i had to delete old emails manually.

Any help and/or tips greatly received.

Cheers

JJ

Do you access the same email account on your PC or any other devices?

What I think is that, once your emails are downloaded (eg: your PC) and removed from the server, they'll also be removed from your Android device, since it'll syncs everything again.

Actually when you have a blackberry service, your email is forwarded to a blackberry server that never removes email so you could forward your mail to a web service like google or yahoo.

Or you could adjust your email account settings as Omnian suggested. Our home POP3 service is set up in the email settings for the account (same place you change your password) to remove messages from the server when they are downloaded to a home computer. If you cannot easily find it - maybe part of the webmail service from your provider - contact your provider for help.

I used an indepedent ISP and hosting service so it never went anywhere near a blackberry server. The only blackberry 'connection' was the device/handset itself.

The email was stored on the server downloaded by the blackberry and left on the server.
The messages were only removed from the server when downloaded via Outlook on the PC.
Blackberry device retained all the messages until i wanted them deleted.

Thanks omnian i do appreciate your time and help.

So there is no way i can stop the device re-syncing the email ?

As if i stop it synching i get no new email on the device!
AND
If i keep it synching i have to leave all mail on the server- the isp will 'love' that ... not!

Sad  I'm afraid there's no remedy to that ATM. Hopefully, it'll be resolve in the Froyo update.

Maybe you can try other email clients from Android Market, like K9 mail, but I haven't try any yet.

If any of the other email clients work for you, please post your result.

Thanks,

All blackberries go through a blackberry server. Just because you don't see it doesn't mean it's not there.

And did you check with your email provider about changing your email settings so they stay on the server? Do you actually understand how email servers work?

It seems my inbox empties itself. I am wondering how to stop it from doing that. I had messages in there thi smorning, this afternoon they are gone?

It seems there is redundant messaging apps on this phone. Email , Gmail, social Hub. Gmail is not part of social hub for some reason, but facebook, my shaw account and test messages are.

You can add gmail to the social hub, I did. And yes there are many ways to access your email, not to mention apps for the different services like gmail, yahoo and hotmail. You don't have to use them all. I just stuck my social hub on the bottom bar and called it good.

My email purges because it's POP and downloads to my laptop. What settings are you using? You can always tell your email client to leave email on the server after downloading it instead of erasing.

I'm a smart phone newbie.  I just bought a Samsung Galaxy.  I successfully set up my POP 3 email account that I use with Microsoft Outlook.

This morning the Galaxy only received three of eight messages that came into my desktop Outlook inbox.  And all three disappeared from the Galaxy, one before I even opened it.

I googled around and read some posts of people having the same problem.  Is this thing just lousy or am I doing something wrong?  I'm pretty sure I set up my incoming and outgoing servers properly, because I did receive 3 emails.

thanks in advance

You and all other people with this problem are doing it wrong. That's because the SGS is mostly fool proof, the desktop PC, however, is not.

This is what happened.

3 emails were dropped in the ISP's mailbox.
SGS popped those 3 and LEFT them on the server (default settings)
5 more emails were dropped in the ISP's mailbox
Desktop Outlook now pops the ISP's mailbox for the now 8 messages, and DELETES those messages (default setting)
SGS wants to check out those messages, but those are deleted, and doesn't know how to handle it.

i.e., the solution is to check the box "Keep messages on the server" for xx days (decide yourself, depends a bit on how much space you have) in the Outlook Email profile at the Additionl Properties
