How to add files to Notification ringtones ?

In the Sound and Display menu, Notification ringtones offers a very limited choice of sounds (for incoming SMS).

I have been unable to add external sounds to the list provided in the handset.

Does anyone know if it is possible to extend the choice of sounds in this menu and how ?

Just ran into the same issue today (wanted to transfer my familiar notification tone from my old phone) and found the solution on the web, which works for me:

On the internal SD card (I haven't tried if it works on the external one as well), create these directory structures (from the root)

\Media\Audio\Alarms
\Media\Audio\Notifications
\Media\Audio\Ringtones

The files you put in these three folders will automatically show up in the selection lists when configuring the sounds for Alarms, Notifications and Incoming Calls, respectively. Unfortunately, they will also still show up in the Audio Player, so if you shuffle through all your music files, it will occasionally play your message notification or ringtone. Haven't found a way to prevent that (maybe setting the hidden and/or system attribute on the files would do the trick?)...

This is true.  Does anyone know if you can set the email ringtone notificationdifferent from the text notification?  That way I know which one when I hear it.  Seems like a pretty important feature that's lacking.

Alan - I have done what you say but for example if I have a tune on mt thy phone Take That for instance and I want to use this TakeThat song when a text comes through it dont allow me to this on the phone.  Can someone point me in the right direction for me to be able to set this, all I seem to be able to do is have the samsung text alerts that came with the phone.

Hi everyone, just purchased a Galaxy the other day, cool phone. Ive been reading this thread as I have the same question. I have created a folder on the Internal memory and have added some tones I want for my SMS, the only thing is I can select them, but it does not play the tone I have selected. Does it matter if the folder or the tone title has a capiltal letter at the start??

First you turn your phone in "mass storage" device before connecting to a computer.

After connecting via USB, you need to press menu (down left) and press "notifications".

The screen will show show something like "USB connected". You need to click on that and a new screen will open, asking you some sort of confirmation that you need to click on.

After that, you will be able to access the content of the SD card on the computer screen and do almost whatever you wish, such as creating a new sub-file in the music file, named "music/notifications".

Any music track you will add to this file will automatically show in the original notifications file of the phone.

The thing is that, if you create a folder named Notifications, the software somehow confuses it with the existing folder bearing the same name.
Therefore, every track you upload in the folder you have created is automatically duplicated in the original folder.
At least, this is what happened with my phone.
I have the original Notifications folder, which I cannot directly access. And I have a folder which I created, named Ringtones (sdcard/ringtones), within which I created a sub/folder named Notifications (sdcard/ringtones/notifications/).

It works a little like the music player.
You upload a track in a folder on the sd card, say Music. Then this track will automatically find its way to the music player files, which by the way is particularly boring...
