The thing is that, if you create a folder named Notifications, the software somehow confuses it with the existing folder bearing the same name.

Did you really connect the phone in Mass Storage mode? Or did you by chance use Kies or the Media Player mode?

Yes, in mass storage mode.

I never use Kies, it's way too complicated. I can do all I want using mass storage mode.

Yes, in mass storage mode.

In Mass Storage mode, the phone offers its storage on sector level, the file system is handled on the PC. Thus, the effect you are seeing is a software issue on the PC, not on the phone. I'm not seeing this effect.

Are you using Windows Vista or 7 and possibly stumbling over it's "virtual folder name" feature in Explorer? Try using the drives in the "Command Prompt", if you're familiar with that. You shouldn't see the effect there.

Just ran into the same issue today (wanted to transfer my familiar notification tone from my old phone) and found the solution on the web, which works for me:

On the internal SD card (I haven't tried if it works on the external one as well), create these directory structures (from the root)

\Media\Audio\Alarms
\Media\Audio\Notifications
\Media\Audio\Ringtones

The files you put in these three folders will automatically show up in the selection lists when configuring the sounds for Alarms, Notifications and Incoming Calls, respectively. Unfortunately, they will also still show up in the Audio Player, so if you shuffle through all your music files, it will occasionally play your message notification or ringtone. Haven't found a way to prevent that (maybe setting the hidden and/or system attribute on the files would do the trick?)...

Thanks for this info - followed the procedure exactly as quoted except that I put it on the external 32GB SD card - works perfectly  Big Smile

How do I create files in the internal SD card from the root?  Hope you can reply. Thanks!

Using your "My Files", in the directory of you sdcard, tab on the Menu key and select [Create folder], named it Media.

Tab Media folder, then Menu key and select [Create folder] again, name it Audio.

Tab Audio folder, then Menu key and select [Create folder] again, name it Alarms. Than another one Notifications and another one Ringtones.

Thanks very much!  It did show up as you said.  But the problem is, since I upgraded to froyo, my cel wouldn't make a sound anymore when it does receive messages even though I already selected the tone in the settings.  Any tone,  not just for the new tones but even for the built in tones.  The videocall ringtone seems to work fine.  But when I receive messages, it just vibrates but doesn't ring anymore. Hope you can help.

I chose settings>sound>notification ringtone>then selected a tone.  During the selection, the chosen tone will sound.  But when I get a text, it fails, just vibrates.

Start your "Messaging", press the "Menu" button, then select [Settings], scroll down to the bottom, check [Notification] and tab on the [Select ringtone] to make your selection.

Thanks Robert, it works from External SD also. I just did it today.

hi guys,

was reading through this and it seems that in my directory pre-installed is the following -

/sdcard/media/audio/notifications -

if i go into each one i eventually end up with 1 file : facebook_ringtone_pop.m4a

so i'm trying to add a file into the notifications folder alongside the fb tone but when i select 'move' or try and paste, it ends up as a seperate file rather than inside notifications.

I eventually did as described from the beggining of this thread :--> and selected 'Create Folder' which worked for txt messages but as yet not for Calender.

I had resisted this as my logic was saying " i need to add to folder not create a new one"

ps, ive only had my galaxy for a week but allready found its so much user friendly compared to my WinMo 6.1 Omnia !

In every single thread I have read that this method works:
My files > Create 'Application' folder > Create 'My files' > Create 'Media' > Create 'Audio' > then Create three different folders inside the folder 'Audio': 'Alarms', 'Ringtones', and 'Notification'

I have done all these steps and I placed my mp3 that I wanted as a text notification inside the Notification folder.

I went to the text message settings to change the notification sound but to find the same sounds that the phone comes with.

Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Nothing seems to be working for me and I downloaded some kind of app that starts with a 'Z' but it doesn't have the tone I want. If someone could help me that would be great. ; u ;

Thanks a bunch for reading I hope someone can help

Also I have the Galaxy S
