Hi All,

I added some MP3 ringtones to my Galaxy S (GT-I9000 running Eclair 2.1) on external SD card. From Settings/Sound and Display, I can select my (newly added) favourite ringtones.

Problem is that when I start Music Player, the list also includes all those ringtones as well. I know both the songs and ringtones are MP3, so the only way for the firmware to differentiate is to put the ringtones in some specific folder. But which is that folder and where it is ?

Can Rooting the device solve this problem ? Or any other trick exists ?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply. I have gone through your recommended thread and many others.

Seems like there is no solution. You can not stop Music Player from peeking inside every folder.

.nomedia method works but it also prevents the files to be used as ringtones.

It is very strange on part of Android developers, I think they don't use their own OS on their phones or they live with stock ringtones only.

Did you try ringdroid? Coming from winmo I find a lot of rough edges around android but there have been free apps in Market to resolve problems.

Downloaded and Installed the "RingDroid" from market.

Added a folder on External SD card with only one ringtone in it.

Used Ringdroid to set it as my default ringtone.

Deleted the ringtones folder from SD card, and everything worked fine. My favourite ringtone was there and was not in the Music Player.

With the greed to add more ring tones, did the same and added few more ringtones through Ringdroid.

When finished, all of them re-appear in the Music Player, even after deleting the folder from SD card.

Result: May be I did something wrong, but with Galaxy S, you can be either a Music freak or a Ringtones freak. You can not be both.

These are limitations of the GT-I9000 default player.  The solution is to use a 3rd party player that has that functionality. For example PowerAMP allows to:

- declare which folders to scan (or not to scan) for inclusion in the MP3 play lists
- select a song for the ringtone list directly from within the player

PowerAMP also solves the problem of the default player not remembering the last song played when the process gets killed - lack of which was driving me crazy in the default player.

I can't even use my own mp3's as ringtones. I have a few in my Galaxy but when I want to select them as ringtones, they don't show up in the list to choose from.
