I'm getting constant complaints from people I call saying they can't hear me. I tried it myself calling from another phone and unless I shout I'm barely audible. If I run the voice recorder app and speak normally then it records quite clearly. Any ideas??
Cheers.

Make sure while you are on a call you do not have your finger or something covering the mic hole at the bottom of the phone.  I had that happen to me a couple of times.  Also, you need to make sure while your speaking your talking towards the bottom of the phone and not holding it at a weird angle.

Thanks, but already tried all that. I hold the phone at the sides and talk directly into the tiny mic hole. It's just quiet and muffled but O.K. in the voice recorder app.

Several times when this happened to me I suggested the to the other party to turn up their in-call volume and that worked.  Also, if you are talking while you are outside and there is any wind that has made call quality very poor.  Too bad the Galaxy S doesn't have a noise cancelling mic like the Nexus One.  Having owned a Nexus, I can say the mic and the flash are the only advantages it has over the Galaxy.  Sorry, to ramble.

Quite frequently I am having the mic cut out all together during calls.  Sometimes this happens even before the call is answered.  Other times it happens during a call.  I can hear the other party fine but they can't hear me.  I've made sure the mic hole is clear and I'm speaking directly into it.

This is happening with such frequency that I have no faith when I make or get a call that I'll be able to use the phone.  If no solution exists I'll be returning the phone quite soon.

It's a nightmare. Let's hope v2.2 Froyo fixes it as I find myself only sending text messages because it's too annoying keep repeating myself in voice calls!!!!!!!!!!!

The problem is to the point now that the mic does not work at all on calls.  But, I have discovered that if I go to speaker during a call, then the mic starts working and the other party can hear me.

I have also determined that the voice recorder and the voice recognition in the Android keyboard can't hear me.  But, I have run the Tricorder (Moonblink) app and it is able to hear just fine.

Did anybody find a solution for this?

My problem is:

I was running stock 2.2.1 (NEE), all working perfectly. Then I installed Hardcores Speedmod kernel (K12T). Now I have a serious problem with distortion and/or low volume on SOME recording situations.

In some calls people can hardly hear me. The only pattern I have seemed to find is that when calling my wifes cell she can barely hear me, but when calling our land line phone all is totally OK (of course tested that this is not her phone problem).

When using the voice recorder the problem is always there. When turning up the mic volume in the voodoo app it gets "better", ie. I can my voice better but all noise etc. is also turned up.

Not sure if this is a Voodoo problem or a Speedmod problem, but posted here because this seems more likely the culprit.

Could this be a problem with Voodoo that it uses the mic differently in different situations or could be something totally different?

Thanks a lot for all help.

new here love the phone but i have jst had this exact problem.

in call no one can hear me unless i shout.. and even then apparently its muffled and intermittant. but on
speaker it works perfectly. 1 night it was working fine i made calls... next day stuffed.

i have tried hard reset and have also restored factory defaults and it still does the same thing.

anyone had solutions or is it a case of returning and screaming for a new one?

If you have a close look at the top left side of the screen on your phone you will see 2 little blue dots, These dots must remain covered (by your ear or hair or Head)
if not the screen wont lock and it is possible to mute the call.. Happens a lot when people don't hold the phone correctly.

When using the headset the volume of your calls is controlled by Settings/Sound/Volume/Media.

This needs to be set before you start the call. You cannot change it once the call is in progress.  Crying

The 'In'call volume' accessed by the rocking swich on the left of the phone will attenuate the volume but will only allow you to send and receive audio to the maximum set on the 'Media' volume.

This is not an ideal solution because:
If you are listening to music on the music player set to for example 10 [the maximum is 15 Eyes Rolling] and you recive a call the volume of the call will be at 10 and you cannot change it. Shocked

My guess is that the Samsung guy who designed the dialer app was in a different room from the guy who designed the Settings/Sound/Volume dialog. and they were not on speaking terms...

The best solution would be for the dialer to use 'Media' volume instead of the useless 'In call volume'.

If I worked in the Samsung office I could go down the hall and tell the guy but instead here we are typing sentences on some obscure forum that i doubt the Samsung guys even read.

So good luck and if you find a better solution share it please.

 Cool
