Hi there!
Has anyone tried it (mass storage usb mode)?
Does it work?
Every time i connect the SG to the computer, in mass storage mode, i get two drives both inacessible (both say "Please insert a disk in drive X:).
Does anyone know how to fix this ?
Thanks.

You don't have to read below. Here is the solution :
"You need to mount the USB device. In the pull down status menu on the phone, click on the USB mode and choose 'mount'. The device will then be visible in the file explorer in windows. "

Thanks to hnrkssn for posting the solution.

I have the exact same problem.
If I unmount the external SD card before connecting the phone in "Kies" mode then I can access the "internal" SD storage.  I then have to transfer files around on the phone using Astro.  This is obviously an exceedingly crap solution, and I would love Samsung to fix it.

For the time being I use it in media player mode which works great if you have drivers installed. But I need to acces files from my phone on computers without kies or drivers. At first I thougt I was doing something wrong and I found nothing about this problem so it seemed I was the only one with this problem.
I also tried mounting the volumes under linux and that didn't work either so it's the phones fault.

Same problem as you guys. My computer runs on Windows 7. My KIES has been updated. The only time my cpu detects the SGS is when I plug it in via KIES. KIES recognizes it easily and the cpu does too. A seperate browse file pop-up appears similar to when you are plugging a usb device. I completely disregard the KIES pop-up and go straight to the SGS storage pop-up to do file tranfers. Clicking the mass storage option on the SGS does nothing when plugged to the CPU. I hope the next firmware update fixes this.

You need to mount the USB device. In the pull down status menu on the phone, click on the USB mode and choose 'mount'. The device will then be visible in the file explorer in windows.

Hi, new to the forum and new to this phone. Whenever i pull down the top menu for USB storage to 'mount', it just says USB connected and when I press it it goes back to the main menu.

All i want to do is transfer music from Napster or my hard drive onto the phone to listen to, or use as ringtones. I know there is another thread but everything seems to rest on getting the computer to recognise the phone.

I would appreciate any advice, but i'll be honest with you, i'm not the greatest with technology, so if it does require putting in new code please make the instructions easy.

Thanks.

Hi guy,

I now can connect the kies from my laptop to the galaxy s.

Go to setting, select about phone, select either mass or kies storage (both work for me)

Plug the usb cable to the laptop or pc.

Then slide the top of the screen down (where is normally show Wi-Fi, bluetooth, silent and vibration) and now you will see ongoing on the screen which show USB connected.

Now press the "USB connected" and you will see the message and said "you have connected your phone to your computer via USB. Select "Mount" if you want to copy files between your comopyuter and your phone's SD card.",
press Mount.

Now you should be able to transfer file between the pc and galaxy s.

It works for both Kies and Mass Storage with internal and external SD card Mounted

Not sure you guys faces this problem. My ring tone always changes back to default whenever I plugged in using the USB cables and each time after unplugging it, I have to reset back to the ring tone that I want. Anyone of you faces this problem? If yes, how did you managed to rectify this problem.
Thanks

I had exactly the same problem as you. Everyone was telling me to use the pull down menu and select 'USB connected' to choose mass storage/mount, the only problem was everytime I selected 'USB connected' all it did was close the pull down menu.  Crying

I managed to solve this problem by going into Settings -> About Phone -> USB Settings

The following list loads:

Samsung Kies
Media player
Mass storage
PC internet
Ask on connection

For me Samsung Kies was checked by default, so everytime I connected by USB it was always trying to connect to Kies.

I changed this to Mass storage. Now when I connect by USB and use the pull down menu I get the option to mount/unmount the device and I can access the files on my PC like any other USB storage device.

I really wouldn't of expected to find the USB settings under 'about phone' I only stumbled accross them because I thought I might have out of date firmware!

Bit late to this thread but have been having USB problems. Trying at home with Windows 7 Home 64-bit, total failure, tried Kies, tried new drivers, tried old drivers, found lots of "Samsung drivers are broken on 64-bit Windows" messages. Gave up.

Came to work, tried plugging into my Linux box. Nothing. No USB messages in the logs. Nearly gave up.

Brainwave: powered off the phone - not just standby, hold button, power off. Power back up, swizzy galaxy logo... try again... Oh look, USB messages in the linux logs. On the phone, do the USB 'Mount' thing, and there it is on my Linux box. Might have another go at home on Win 7 tonight.

Solution: "Have you tried switching it off and on again?" Oh I love the IT Crowd....

Viper

In your Solved equation, did you use an Original Samsung USB cable, or a generic one?

I just got off the phone with Samsung Tech support, she insisted I use an original Samsung USB cable that was included with the phone, before we went any further with the USB mass storage issue.  She claimed she has seen this solve the USB connectivity issue.

See my newer post at:
