Hello, hope you dont mind me asking for some advice please...I've searched and cant find anything obvious similar but happy to be pointed elsewhere.

Have a Galaxy S 1 on Orange, running 2.33

issue is that occasionally I "loose" 3g connectivity but not because of poor signal as far as I can see.

Top dropdown bar shows the 3g icon with 2 grey arrows (no activity?) and data icon is green (on)
however if i try to use any internet based service it tells me i have no connection

Go to network/wireless sttings and I find that Packet data & Roaming are set to "off".
Press the on off button and it shows data network mode deactivated
Unable to turn on/off data using the drop down toolbar..

if i then turn on the Packet Data setting, the 3g icon comes active and i can then surf etc
and turn off the data connection...

later the same happens again..

often as well I have to reset the APN to default again to get it to work as well...

Any ideas please ??

Have various apps installed (free/bought mainly from the market and all set to not auto update etc)

Thanks

First thing to do is remove battery while phone is still on, leave it a minute then replace battery and power up.

Next check whether you have any type of tasks killer or optimisation apps installed as they could be turning off data to save battery/memory etc

If not, i'd try factory reset first.  Just beware this will wipe the phone so backup any essential data first.

To factory reset,  open the dialler and type *2767*3855#

If that doesn't work you may need to send take back to where you bought it for repair or replacement.
Or you could try reflashing the phone software if you're confident.

The following link is a step-by-step guide to flashing Froyo I've posted, follow the steps,  factory reset then update to latest software using Kies.

Hope this helps Happy

I am having a similar issue except my data usually wont come back till I reboot my phone. It starts out with the 3G indicator still there, but just white (no red and green showing it's active, no connection with the web browser). Then the indicator disappears after a few minutes. I have tried pulling the battery, I have done a factory reset. The tech guy I talked to with my phone company suggested I do an emergency firmware recovery. Only problem is after I connected to KIES (which only took hours as I have driver issues galore every time I try to connect to it, apparently it does not agree with win 7) and went to emergency firmware upgrade it wont detect my device (but KIES is recognizing it and functioning fine...ie file transfer...with it otherwise). Oh btw my device is a galaxy phone i896. Any other suggestions? I would really rather not send it to Samsung as that will cost me a couple hundred I am sure as my warranty is up.

Oh lovely, samsung chat help made me do the hard reset/factory reset again (and strange thing it didn't erase my music this time) this time using the power/volume keys. It still did not work so they say it is either software or hardware and that I need to send it in for repair. As there is no way I can freakin afford a repair right now any suggestions for a fix in the case it's a software issue. As I mentioned my carrier suggested I do an emergency firmware recovery, but whenever I hook my phone up and go into the emergency firmware screen/box it does not list it in the list of devices that need an emergency firmware repair so I can't do it that way. I was hoping maybe someone had a code I could use to do it with? not sure if I can even do it that way without a code specifically generated for my phone but hoping I can.
