Hi all, I'm new to android and my Galaxy S.

My issue is syncing my calendar with google calendar. If i enter a new appointment in my google calendar it syncs perfectly with my phone. However, if I enter an appointment into my phone calendar it does not sync back to my google calendar.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Starting to think I should have bought an iPhone

thanks in advance

You didn't make a mistake getting an Android phone, it actually requires one to learn about the product they purchased. All of the brainwashed people that have the icrap don't understand that their phone can do only one thing, download apps.  This is the beauty of Android, it can do so many things it requires one to ask questions and think.  Go into your calendar app, press menu>settings>calendar sync.  You should also go into menu from home screen then accounts and sync and make sure you syncing is turned on.

thanks for your reply. however I don't have a problem learning, I'm not brainwashed and I didn't have any intention of buying an iPhone. Sorry for my off the cuff remark. nuf said. However I would like some help.

My gmail sync is switched on, backround data on, Auto sync on. Everything else syncs perfectly, (automatically and manually) up and down from my device to the cloud and back. However, if i enter an appointment in my calendar on my phone it will not go back to google calendar. I am not the only one with this problem as I have found another android forum with a chain of people with exactly the same issue on the Galaxy S. I'm hoping for some information from that forum also.

I'm just frustrated that in the first week of using an Android phone, the most important feature to me is not yet working...

many thanks

I just tried the same thing you are having trouble with and it didn't sync for me as well.  When I enter a calendar event on my google desktop calendar it syncs to my phone but not vice-versa.  It seems like we all have the same problem.  I just emailed Samsung about this and I got a quick response that they know about this issue and they are working on a solution.  Seems like one of a few glitches so far which all phones will have a few.  Sorry I couldn't help.  My Nexus One didn't have an issue with this.

I think lots of people have experienced difficulties regarding syncing the Galaxy, both to calendar and mail.
I spent some hours to figure out how to get things to work, and landed on the "Touchdown" app. Works great, and syncs what I want to be synced.

However I also have a Ipod touch synced to my private mail-account. No problem setting up, and very intuitive. When people like galaxySinAZ refer to Icrap, I must remind him and others that all the Icrap I’ve tried actually works from the minute I turn on the power-knob.

Sadly thats not the issue with everything in the Android and PC world, but then again you get more flexible products and get to decide and customize more at your own will.

Hi All

I don't seem to have this problem when I create an event in the calendar app. I just need to change the selected calender from "My Calender" to my google calender. Otherwise google desktop calender will not get updated. If only I can set my google calender as the default calender, then its perfect.

Hope this helps.

thanks for your help mnorrisi,

you're right. If I choose Google calendar after every entry I can get around it. These things are s'posed to make life easy and this is certainly not. I can't find a way to make Google calendar the default calendar. It seems to be an oversight by Samsung. I hope they fix it!!!

PS now I'm really annoyed, because I've just discovered that I can't sync my contact groups. Contacts sync perfectly but not in groups..... grrrrrrrrr

I found a solution for the Calendar Sync issue. Basically, someone suggested that you changed the starting dates of all my recurring events to 2010.

Since I have done that, the Galaxy calendar updates perfectly with Google. Now on to fixing this Group issue!

Kept searching and found the solution here: http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f55/need-help-syncing-calender-sams-galaxy-s-9000-a-37281/

Hi all,
actually when you add an event you have the option to select what calendar to add it to.
The default one is the one from samsung. I haven't found a way to change that to the google one.
I don't really need two calendars but ONE the syncs with everything.  By deactivated the samsung one when you add an event you add it to the only one available (the google one)
I am also syncing with my outlook from work with the Google calnedar sync - Heaven!

For the moment our  IT does not support anything else than Black berries. Until they do, the above work around works well for me.

I hope this helps.
cheers

Another way is to download the Google Calendar widget, it lists upcoming events and you can add events directly to the google calendar. Haven't used it myself but I would think that it'll sync with no problems to google.

I believe this is a known bug. But there is an option to choose which calendar to save your info in everytime you add an event. If you choose the google calendar, it syncs fine. There's also a google calendar widget, so you can add/see appointments right on google calendar. That way, you could sync with no problems.

I have a similar problem. I want to get all my calendars (4) from one Google calendar account. I get only one of my calendars to the SGS calendar app. There's no way to select more than the default calendar. Any solutions? I want to be able to see different calendars just like on the iPhone.
