Hi,
My Galaxy S battery died last night and I put my spare in and powered it up. The 'enter PIN' screen came up but I didn't enter it as I was in bed, tired, and feel asleep. In the morning the screen was blank. I re-booted it and the coloured swirl screen comes up, the music plays and it goes to the screen with a big S in the middle. It never gets past this screen. It hasn't totally locked as the colour of the 'S'  is changing. After a minute or so the screen goes blank and the 2 LEDs behind the menu and back buttons are the only indication that it's on. Any ideas other than 'Factory reset' as there are photos etc on the internal SD which I haven't backed up :-S
My only idea at the moment is to possibly factory reset it then run a Windows file recovery on the internal memory to retrieve the files.
Thanks.

I had the same problem shortly after I got my Galaxy S back in June.  I called the Samsung support people who told me there was no way I could recover from that without taking it to the Samsung service centre.  I'd already tried the power-up sequence for a factory reset but nothing happened. So I took it in to their service location  and they told me it needed a complete reinstall of software.  Fromn the way the person told me that, it  appeared that I was not the first customer to have come in with that problem.

The bad hnews of course was that I lost all the data and apps I'd installed, but the good news was that they did the re-install within about 45 minutes and the phone has worked fine ever since then (I upgraded it a few weeks ago, so hopefully the bug that caused the original problem is no longer present anyway.  I didn't know much about the internal workings of the phone at that point, and maybe if I'd faffed about with it (techn ical term) for long enough I might have got it working.

Good luck!

Same thing just happened to me, turned the phone off then turned it on and the startup logo and sound come on, then black screen with no indication that it’s on other than lights behind the keys behind the menu and back buttons are lit up.

Unfortunately for me they are in short supply where I live and they need to send it away 4-6 weeks  Crying, I only had the phone for just over a month but I starting to not regret purchasing extended warranty for my entire contract term.

Other than this the phone is awesome, did a GPS tweak and it fix my GPS problem and did the flight mode switch to fix my battery issue.

Would be nice if they load foyo 2.2 onto it while they are repairing the issue, cross fingers.

Same problem here. Called Samsung, they walked me through a deletion of all users files and cache but that still didn't work. They guy said it was a very rare issue and that I could send it in or hopefully get it exchanged by T-mobile.

On my way to T-mobile now..........

*EDIT* Got a replacement from T-mobile. I'm a little concerned about what caused my phone to go bad. Maybe it was just a defective phone. I kinda think it might have been a 3rd party program I downloaded. Hopefully it wont happen again as I download my apps again.
