Hi,

My Galaxy S keeps having issues and now they've hit their worst. When I try to turn it on it's stuck in a boot loop in the "Galaxy S GT-I9000 Samsung" screen. It'll show up, disappear, and show up again. I tried doing a factory reset and wiping the cache partition but it didn't do anything. However, whenever I reboot via recovery it says "E: failed to mount data (file exists)", and I have no idea what this means.

The phone had been exhibiting strange behavior, like wiping all my personal data such as memos and texts a while back (even made a thread that never got me any answers) and I sent it for repair hoping they'd find a hardware problem and correct it. They found nothing, told me to be more specific with my tech support requests and just installed the latest Android firmware. That fixed it (duh) for a while, but a week ago it started acting up again, with troubles booting. Then, one day it had wiped my personal data. Today it's stuck in the loop.

Does samsung have customer support in Portugal?

Anyway, any ideas? This is driving me insane. Thank you.

Hey Ethereus. Sorry to hear that your SGS1 is acting up.

I would suggest (seeing as you've had your data wiped already) to download Odin and JVT stock ROM (PDA, PHONE/MODEM, CSC) and a 502 .pit file and flash (instructions for this available eVeRYWHeRe!

This will wipe all your data. When the phone reboots after the flash, turn it off and go into CWM (Vol Up + Home Button + Power On for 3 secs) and selecting both wipe options. And then reboot.

Once phone loads up again, wipe and format both SD cards (external optional but is advised).

This will factory reset your phone back to stock but on a more recent, more stable and more better ROM.

See how that goes.

If you fancy a bit more... Get yourself a Semaphore Kernel v 1.9.1 JVT (http://www.semaphore.gr/downloads/i9000). With this, in CWM, you get an option marked ADVANCED. In that section you can WIPE DALVIK CACHE which should also help.

P.S. Flashing instructions  Cool:
When flashing JVT 3 file stock ROM, sometime RE-PARTITION doesn't "self-tick". Make sure this is ticked BUT ONLY WHEN USING A .PIT FILE.
To flash a Kernel, load up Odin, load Kernel into PDA. That is all.

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS take advantage of having Google on your phone! Save all contacts to GMail and they never get lost, wiped, replaced etc.

Titanium Backup for apps and data. SMS Backup & Restore for messages.

If you have any questions, please do a search before posting a new thread and if you can't find anything, then try to put the new thread into the correct forum.

Android Version 4.0.4
CyanogenMod version 9.1.0 (20120916)

No "That is all".
Flashing a kernel via Odin, untick Repartition and don't use any PIT file!

This is happening to hubby's phone.   He won't let me reset it as he hasn't backedup his photos.  He just wants me to leave it looping, as it did this before and then started again on it's own.

Will doing "wipe cache partition" lose his pictures? He doesn't have an external sd card.

Hey guys,

One common cause of this fault is that the Internal SD can come unstuck from the motherboard. The way Samsung fix this? They replace the whole board.

If your phone is still under any sort of warranty, bring it to Samsung and they will fix it for you.

The down side is that your data is gone.

This happened to my Galaxy S and to my friends one as well.

Basically, if factory reset does not fix it, odds are you need a new mainboard.

Hope this is of use.

If your main concern is recovering data, try installing just a Kernel that contains CWM (ClockWork Mod) using Odin. Then start the phone into recovery (vol+ & Home & Power).

Plug the phone into a pc via USB, from Recovery there should be a 'Mounts and Storage' option, select this and select 'Mount USB'. Give it a minute and you should now have full access to the phone storage to copy all of your pics etc to your pc.

Once this is done, you can then install new software (if you download a .zip version, you can install from Recovery instead of using Odin) and get the phone working again.

****Please note, this will void warranty, so no good if you are intending on sending the phone to Samsung for a fix****
