Hello out there clever guys and girls,

I recently got the Samsung Galaxy S. It's a very nice phone, I like it a lot, but:
is it a .... phone for business use   Undecided Crying   ???

My SGS syncs with the MS-Exchange server of my work (at VU university Amsterdam). I have the following problems with the standard Samsung agenda application and with the standard Samsung e-mail application of the SGS.

Agenda:
-Maximum of data to sync with the MS-Exchange server account is only 1 month (!). This results in the annoying problem that I cannot go any further than 1 month from today in viewing my appointments in the SGS. When I try to go to a date after 1 month from today, the agenda application (proces com.android.calendar) is forced to close down.
For business use this sucks a lot. I realy must be able to sync and adress more agenda data then only data up to 1 month from now.

Am I doing something wrong here? Is there a agenda app for the SGS that allows a better synchronisation for the agenda with the MS-Exchange server?

E-mail:
-The folder structure (main folders, sub-folders, sub-sub-folders) is not synchronized correctly. All the folders are listed at the same level. This results in al list of a couple of hundreds (!) of folders without any hierarchy. This sucks to.
-In the SGS e-mail app I cannot move read e-mail to a folder when I am ready with it. So I cannot archive the mail while I am on the road to a folder (or sub-folder) of my choice.

Again:
am I doing something wrong here? Is there a e-mail app for the SGS that results in a better synchronisation of e-mail and folderstructure with the MS-Exchange server?

Are these problems solved in android 2.2?

I will be very gratefull for your replies. I am not a bits-and-bytes pilot so I realy need you help here.

Thanks a lot,
Jan-Willem
Amsterdam

You are correct with all your email annoyances. However, I never had any problems with the default Calendar app combined with Exchange. Never crashed on me, can make appointments months ahead. Exchange 2003 (all service packs and patches, no special settings).

I will try to find out what version of MS-Exchange we are using. In the meantime my agenda crashed completely and will not start at all anymore. Is there a way to re-install only the agenda? Or do I need to do a factory reset now?

By the way, you recognized my e-mail problems; do you no a better e-mail app?

Cheers,
Jan-Willem

I also had a problem with my office exchange as compared to my colleagues with Iphone 3 and Iphone 4.  They had no problem synching email, calendar and all company contacts, wheres I synch email, no calendar and only the contacts I created locally, but not the group ones. I have noi clue why, I used the same parameters. Not very happy with this...(Still using Eclair...) Crying

@Jan-Willem:
For email, I have no alternative (because the synch is kinda embedded, don't think a third party can do it better), so I just do simple email on my Android, and the moving and deleting, I just do it on the desktop.
Also, can you check if clearing the Calendar cache helps, since you can't start it at all now ? It's in Settings > Application > Manage Applications (make sure menu key > filter > is set to All) > Click Calenda > Clear data

For both @Jan-Willem (after your Calendar starts working again) and @bionksie, are your Sync contacts and Sync calendar checkboxes checked (green) ? It's on by default, but check again at Settings > Accounts and Sync > Click on the Exchange account in question > Account settings (scroll down a bit)

I cleared the cache and in my enthousiasm I also cleared the data. Oops  Sticking out tongue ! So I had no agenda data anymore and also the sync function failed. Good news was: the agenda app opened again (albeit without any appointments).

So I decided to remove my work account and reinstall the account again. This worked! And much to my surprise: I can move to data beyond 1 month from today without the agenda app crashing! So far so good! So the main agenda issue is solved. Although it is still an agenda app with limited possibilities for professional use. Copying appointments for example is not possible.

e-mail problems remain unsolved?!

But thanks for your advice so far. It has been very helpfull.

Cheers,
Jan-Willem

Good news! First of all, Froyo is out for NL (as I know, I just updated it through KIES). Second of all, default email app now has Move to Folder command. Folders still same level though (Android just doesn't like tree structures I guess, unlike Windows)

K9 is free from the Market, but, it's not as integrated as the default Email app. Basically, you will tell K9 to use IMAP to connect to your Exchange server (if enabled by your sysadmin), so you can handle your email there (but I think it will still sync with the default Email app, unless you change the Email check frequency to Never).
