Ok so GPS still isn't working great.  It's getting *a* location, that's kind of near where I am, like it's using cell tower triangulation.  Yes I did check to see if the GPS is on, and it was on during my tests.  This is better than before when it was completely not working at all.

Try going on Market look for SGS Tools.

Download it and open it

Eneter Secret Codes -> GPS test and settings -> delete GPS data.

It will Reset your GPS data so wait a while for the initial GPS catch. 10-15 mins

Peace.

I don't see an SGS tools, just two "galaxy unlock" apps.

Also, do I need to reroot my phone?  I tried installing titanium backup and it said the phone was not rooted.

Thanks

If you didn't root after installing the new ROM then yes.

Otherwise if you read properly the message is You are either not rooted or you don't have busybox.

It seems SGS tools was removed from Market.

You can still get it from here.

Just copy the .apk file to your phone.

And then Locate the file using My Files App on your phone and Select it.

Peace.

You don't need to root to use the secret codes.

I believe he was asking due to Titanium Backup.

Right, I was trying to use titanium backup and it wouldn't let me use it.  I did not root it again after I installed the new ROM.  I guess that means the phone is also re-locked?

I will download the SGS tools from the link you sent me today.

Thanks

The Lock is Permanent, until you Relock. I am assuming you mean the Network Lock.

As for Root, it is a privilege I cannot stress this enough.

It means that you have Admin Access to change system files.

A Normal user does not have this privilege.

By default the privilege is disabled by rooting your device you are granted the privilege.

Most Custom Roms are pre rooted. So when you install Darky for example you will have Root access by default.

This Access is provided by an App, so a hard or Soft Reset will also make you loose the privilege even on Custom Roms.

Peace.

Yes, I was referring to the simlock.  I don't presently have another sim I can test it with.  Ok good to hear I won't have to do that again.

Ok I rerooted, installed the SGS tools, and did as you said.  Now I've just got to take it out and see how it does.

Try and get a GPS lock where you are.

It should show you where you are and not the Cell Tower Location.

Still not working.  I was in a car, on a highway, in the middle of the country and it gave me my approximate location, but then the little arrow indicating where I'm going just didn't move at all.  So it was stuck in that same location.

Please try this.

If you don't wish to read everything.

Short instructions:

Enter this in the Dialer:
*#*#3214789650#*#*

Then Make the settings like this:

1. Session Type: Tracking

2. Test Mode: S/W Test

3. Operation Mode: Standalone

4: Start Mode: Hot Start

5: GPS Plus: On

6: Dynamic Accuracy: On

7: Accuracy: 30m

8: GPS Logging: Off

SUPL/CP Settings:

Server FQDN Type: Custom Config
Server: supl.google.com
Server Port: 7276
SUPL Secure Socket: OFF
AGPS Mode: SUPL

So let me know how it goes.

Peace.

I didn't read your last post before I went on vacation.

Here's an update before I did that -

I'm still not getting a perfect location but it seems to be working better on google maps.

I used google navigation while driving around for several days about a week and a half ago and it basically worked to get us where we were going.  So I was very happy about that.  It seemed like the navigation locked onto the signal better than the maps and gave us a more accurate location.

I'll try what you suggested in your last post to see if it makes a difference in google maps.

On a completely unrelated note, I was sitting at a pub on the second floor the other day and my phone fell off the table and through the railing onto the first floor behind the bar, and it didn't break.  Amazing. The back popped off and the battery flew out but the screen was fine.  I put the battery back in and turned it on.  I'm impressed.
