The phone has 2 Navigation icon's on the face.  Just whats the difference between 'Navigation'  & 'Navigation Navicon'?  I know that the latter says that you can get huge downloads of up to 2GB's.

But what do you get if you did this download?  Could a download that huge be done with Kies directly from Kies, or via tethering?

Thanks in advance

The 'Navigation' icon is for the Google Maps navigation,  the other icon is likely to be a third party app,  unless the Google Maps doesn't meet your needs,  I'd get rid of the other app,  especially if it's stating it could need 2gb download.

If I could download say the entire set of maps for our state & keep it on the SC card it should be possible to navigate by turning GPS on & not using any data usage from the mobile phone company.

I'm not aware of any mobile navigation apps that work that way,  tho I could be wrong.

Proper satnavs work like this because they don't have any Internet connection to download on the go,  but mobiles don't have this issue

Sems I was wrong about being able to download and store maps for future use without an internet conenction.

I am using Google maps ver 6.0.1 with ICS, so can't say if this is available on an earlier versions or not.

But if you open Google Maps, press Menu, select Settings > Labs. In the labs section there is an option for 'Precache map area'. Here it explains how it works, simply tap this option to activate it.

This is part of Google Labs, so basically is for testing and not gauranteed to work, but worth a go.
