I know how to delete individual words from the dictionary (and think the person who invented that method is an idiot).  How do you delete all the words that Swype has "learned"?
If you install Swype from the Market then you can go into Settings/Applications/Swype and clear the data.  As it is in ROM on the Galaxy S this method doesn't work.
Do I have to root my phone to delete the dictionary manually?

You still can do that... Wink Wink

Just goto [Settings] > [Applications] > [Manage applications] and tap on the Menu button...

Then, choose [Filter]...

Highlight the radio button for [All]...

Scroll down till you see [Swype], tap on it...

And choose [Clear data]...

To delete an individual word from Swype dictionary, type the word, select it and tap on the swype key (the most bottom left key with a finger writing a S and an exclamation mark)

Thanks

I take it that it only works on added words not those it picks up from general use? It didn't give me an option to delete individual, just an option to select a different word.

Is there a way of deleting words from the Samsung keypad dictionary too?

Thanks again

I tried to do this via application manager, and although it says it clears the data, as soon as I close out of that screen, the data is not cleared.  HELP!  I have a word that I need to delete as it is driving me nuts, and I've tried to delete it by doing what you're supposed to--highlighting and tapping the swype key.  Either the alternate words list comes up, or it goes to the tutorial--it will not bring up the delete screen.

I'm still having problems with the stupid Swype dictionary.

I have a client whose surname is Goy, so every time I try to Swype "got" I get "Goy".

I've followed the instructions on this thread and deleted the word individually, and although it seems to work at first, after a short period of time, it is back at the top of the suggested word list. (He's just in my phone book, it's not like I'm writing his name in texts etc either!)

So after getting annoyed at it keep coming back, I decided to clear all of the Swype data using the method below.

It seemed fine at first, but guess what... a little later, there he was again, at the top of the list.

It is very annoying, especially as when you choose "got" from the list it then gives you the hidden word splash screen (which I would also like to switch off!)

This needs fixing!

I have the same frustrating problem. Angry  My daughter's name is Haley, but every time I type it with a capital H it thinks I'm saying Healey.
I can select the word and hit the swype key and it just gives me other words to chose from, but not the option to delete.
What is a Healey anyway? HUH?

There are a few ways to delete words from the dictionary, but to delete the entire dictionary do as Omnian said. If you're still confused, you can watch a how to video here http://www.phonebuff.com/2011/08/delete-swype-user-dictionary-for-android/
