Ya, I've got something similar occurring If I want to use a regular pair of headphones with my SGS, I find that If I don't push the jack in all the way it helps. But what I've figured out is that its due to the fact that the SGS has 4 sections in it (for input from the mic etc..) so that it doesn't line up properly with a regular headphone jack, thus not getting ideal sound. Hope this helps.

You need a 4 conductor 3.5 mm plug to go into the Galaxy S.  On the other end you need 3 RCA plugs (Left, Right and Video).  When you plug into the receiver, plug in the video (yellow) connector into the left or right audio input and one of the audio plugs (red or white - can't remember which) into the other audio input.  I bought this cable on ebay for a just a couple dollars - works great.
