I can browse and sync media on W7 HP x64 without any (new) drivers!  The key was to set the usb settings:  settings->applications->usb settings.  I set "Ask on connection" (the default is Kies-which I'm not sure what it is supposed to do).  When the usb is added, I have been able to "Media Player" and "Mass storage".

For "Mass storage", you need to "mount" after you are connected.  To mount, slide the status bar at the top down and select "usb connected" and then select "mount".

OT - after reading a thread like this I can understand better why people didn't like winmo. My first kick at computers came from entering programs into a C64 but was never interested in C or C+. I do some Windows support and have built knowledge over the years. I know what to try with windows so I didn't find winmo that mysterious and even wished the SGS ran winmo so I could port my purchased programs and I miss some functionality.

With android it's a steep learning curve and throw in things like static affecting your touch (I have no other explanation as it only happened for a few hours and resolved) and combinations of programs causing hangs Shocked. Add in stupid connectivity tricks and it's a good thing we have a resource like Omnian who likes to share his knowledge and has a good way of transmitting the information.

I am in the same situation as tridio, and I registered primarily to thank you for this information. But I think I will linger and read more of the forum Happy.
I have Windows 7 Ultimate x64, and it took the USB driver V1.3.800 to make the USB connection.

One more warning: I initially had tried to connet the phone using an USB extender that worked flawlessly with my G1 and other USB devices, and the Galaxy S never got to work that way. Only when I rememberred that some USB devices are marginal and need to be connectd directly to the motherboard was I able to connect my Galaxy S.

Thanks again

Did you try the driver in Omnian's link? I have Windows 7 64 bits Ultimate, and it is the only driver that worked for me. Make sure to remove any other driver you may have installed before.
Also, connect your phone directly on a USB port on the MotherBoard: I am still unable to connect the phone when using a USB extension. If you still cannot connect, maybe you should try to replace your USB cable?
Good luck!

I have win7 premium 64bit and what I do is connect the phone to usb port, then go to phone and select kies, wait till kies opens on its own, kies will then try to establish connection, at this point I'll eject the phone from kies and unplug, after that, I plug the phone back in and it connects. This process hasnt failed me yet.

Recently switched from XP to Win7 64bit (new PC). XP worked fine, but I found only rare success getting Win 7 to recognize the phone. I tried all 8 of my USB jacks without luck. I downloaded & installed the Samsung driver without luck. Note here that Win 7 always told me that the Samsung driver was not correct for my device.

After I plugged the phone into USB port and was told the device would not work I entered troubleshooting mode, deleted the device and drivers and search for new devices. Mostly this did not work, but a small percentage of the time it would recognize the device and I could browse the phone. But if I unplugged the phone and plugged it back in the phone was no longer recognized.

My solution was this - I had a 4 port powered USB hub that I used with my XP box because it had no front USB ports. I plugged it into the Win7 box and plugged in the phone. Bang! Phone is recognized every time without fail. I don't know if it was because of the power drain on the USB port, or just that the hub acts as an intermediary but whatever it is it just works. My guess is that the issue lays more with your motherboard's USB ports than with either the phone or Windows 7.

What a great resolution! Can you sync through the USB hub. I always thought that would be a problem.

I don't know if you can sync through the hub, as I have no need to. Gmail is my companies mail provider and the phone is tied to that address, I have all the access I need via phone and browser. I don't need to complicate things by merging corporate and personal contact lists.

Thanks Omnian but just my luck - that's a dead link now.

.....It was working just this morning.

Luckily I've downloaded it. Get it from HERE, if you want to try it.

Thanks a lot for these drivers!!!
I had the same problem and downloaded different drivers, but yours are the best Happy
