Now I know you can do this with calls but what about text messaging?

The reason I ask is for some reason I can no longer recieve texts from my GF. I can text her no problem and I can recieve texts from people on the same network as her. She can also text other people on the same network as me, but not me.

We have both contacted out network providers and they both say they can't see any problems with our accounts. The last time I could receive a text was 11pm Friday night last week.

My only remaining theory is that in my heavily intoxicated state I somehow blocked her number.  Undecided

Hey, is it possible that she is able to receive your texts? I have this problem as well. As far as solving the problem, I'm afraid I don't have a permanent solution. The pattern I've noticed is texts being blocked when the other party sends a long message. Exactly how long I do not know.

The solution I've been doing is to stick the sim card from the Galaxy S to another phone, get the other party to send another sms to the same number. The texts should come in.

I've called Samsung, they've offered no solutions thus far. My service provider hasn't given me a solution at all too.

Hope you have at least this temporary solution to tide you over this problem. =)

ahhhhh this old problem. I had the EXACT same problem once with my old samsung where somehow i had blocked my GF by accident, and although i could receive her calls, i was not getting her msgs. On my old phone i was however able to find out that i HAD actually blocked her by accident, and was able to fix this.

I now have a Samsung galaxy S and so when the same thing happened again i was not too concerned. Only after i looked extensively into the problem did i realise that it actually was a problem, and i could not unblock her. i rang my service provider but nothing they did helped, and now i too am waiting for samsung to get back to me on this one. ill keep you all posted.

Just to update you, I tried my sim card on my old nokia and 45 texts came through. I then contacted the shop where i got the phone and after discussions with their technical team they think there may be a problem with the aerial on the samsung and it has been sent back for checking/repair or replacement. My phone is 2 months old, will update later with result. Now getting all my texts on the old Nokia.

Hello all,

I have this same problem, does anybody have the solution?

I went to my local provider the other day and they said that it was a glitch on the phone, that if you receive a txt of over 160 characters it blocks that user automatically. Apparently there is a software upgrade you can get that clears this up but I have no idea where to get it...

Any help would be fantastci, this is an awesome phone but I would have thought this glitch would have been fixed by now...

Hmm, I sent my phone in for servicing, they changed the motherboard, so that might be the solution.

if it is really a software glitch, i believe you can bring it down to the service center and explain to them the problem and what your service provider told you. they should be able to upgrade the software for you. but i guess the software that fixes the problem is subject to regions =\ so it's hard to say.

but thus far my SGS hasn't been giving me the same problems =) at least til now, for about 3 weeks or so.

I think you should try a factory reset. You can also check with your provider to see what they do with texts over 160 characters.

Here's a neat (2009) article about how texting came to be limited characters to 160.

sorry to bump an old thread, but this just happened to me last night on my s2, is there a fix for it as yet?

Edit, Update: Taking the sim out, putting it in another phone and allowing messages to come through, then putting it back in your galaxy does "fix" the problem. But there is obviously some kind of issue with the device as to why this happens.Iit has lead me to think that maybe this is one of the reasons that text messages are turned into mms after a certain length, as long text messages seem to trigger the problem in the first place.

I hope that is helpful to some poor guy wondering why his girlfriend won't talk to him haha
