When you say you are on 2g you mean 2g internet? Try turning off Wifi and Blutooth, and turn it on only when you need it. As searching for wifi signal also eats battery. Even on standby it has to keep the connection alive, it is like makeing a call for as long as 2G is on. You need APN On/Off Widget or if you have froyo do a long press on the power button and select Turn data Network Mode Off. You should keep the connection alive for only when you need it. If you need it running the whole time then accept the battery usage.
