I installed an app last night and my galaxy S continued working fine, I switched it off but when I went to turn it on this morning, it gets to the samsung pulsing 'S' icon and wont boot up. It keeps vibrating every few minutes and the menu buttons are on at the bottom of the phone.

I have tried removing the battery and restarting and also fully charging but nothing is working. I understand you can do a hard reset but does this delete all data including contacts? Is there any other way of resetting or removing the offending app without losing my contacts and photos etc?

Please help!

Andrea

Can you get to recovery mode via 3 button combo?

Yes, I've tried the first option for reboot phone but it does the same thing -it restarts and I just get the galaxy 'S' logo. Do any of the other options reboot without losing data?

Have you tried leaving it on the logo 'S' Screen for like 15 -30 minutes?....I've noticed mine used to sometimes takes ages on that screen before it fully boots up..this was on firmware 2.3.4. (JVQ)

Yes, I left it on the 'S' screen in the hope it may work but it just remained the same for hours until the battery died.

Any other suggestions would be very much appreciated!

Ok. Have you done a Nandroid backup or Titanium Backup yet?
If not, I can't help you.
If yes:
-Turn off your phone.
-go to recovery.
-go to 'mounts and storage'
-connect your phone to the PC. via USB cable.
-select 'mount usb storage'
-You can copy what you want from sd card to PC or from PC. to SD card (e.g. ROM.zip)
-select 'umount'
-unplug the cable.
-Flash a ROM via recovery or Odin or Heimdall.
