android system recovery????

ive been having issues with my capivate sgh-1897not loading was abke to get to andriod system recovery by pressing both up down vol buttons and power at the same time

there was 4 options reboot now if it was an accident
reinstall packages (wouldnt work error code aborted)
delete all user data
delete cache data

my question is deleting cache data wont delete my pictures will it
also any tricks on how to get to download screen as iv tried down home and start
not sure if download screen will help get me where i need to be. need pics off internal mem any ideas please help and thank you

and not that it help yet again i was able to get to download screen by pressing and holding both up and down vol buttons then plugging usb cable in

not sure what that screen is used for i was hopiing for an easy fix or even difficult fix but it elludes me still down but  not out
