The alarm DO work in "Sleep" mode. I just woke up this morning with its alarm.
There may be something wrong with your device. Check your settings or apps that you've install, whether anyone having conflict with your alarm.
I am having a problem with the alarm as well. But the problem is not consistent. The first night I got it, I tested the alarm by setting it for a few minutes ahead, and it worked. But in the morning it did not go off. The phone was asleep, but not off. Then I checked "smart alarm" and it went off OK. I thought it was a bug that the alarm only worked if "smart alarm" was checked. OK, fine, stupid bug I could live with.
However, now 3 weeks later, suddenly for the past 2 days the alarm does not go off in the morning even with Smart Alarm checked. I thought maybe it was a problem created because now I have the habit to manually put my phone to sleep with the side button, whereas before I let it sleep according to system settings.
But when I test it, setting the alarm for 15 minutes in future, it works no matter what ... so now I am left with an untrustworthy alarm - I travel A LOT and have had no problems with any mobile phone alarm in the past 10 years - only this one. I HATE to miss a flight etc. due to untrustworthy alarms - is anyone else having a problem like this intermittently ?
I agree with the others - it is absolutely baseless and no excuse to have a phone alarm not work - the computer's internal clock works if the battery has any life at all, whether the phone is on or off or asleep -- so this must be an issue either with firmware or bad software. I am a programmer and know the internal clock is a very low level part of the OS - you should be able to wake up the phone or turn it on from an alarm application (as all other mobile phones have done in the past - even dumb ones could do via firmware).
I find the same problem happens sometimes on calendar item alarms or alarms I create that are far into the future such as an alarm which should go off only on next Saturday and today is Monday - sometimes they go off, sometimes not. That is just crazy and unacceptable. I love this phone UI and other fun things -- but what is the point of syncing up calendars, appointments, having all the choice of alarm wake up tones etc. AND THEN IT DOES NOT GO OFF ONLY *SOMETIMES* ?? Has anyone found a solution or know for certain what causes it ? It has something to do with length of time the phone is asleep and *maybe* also if you make it sleep manually instead of let it go to sleep by the system settings ...
I have gt-i9000 2.1 update firmware, kernel 2.6.29 root@se-s602 #2 , Build eclair.i9000buig2 from French provider SFR. I have not rooted it, but if that will solve this problem I will do it ... Does anyone know if rooting can solve this ?
Also, I do not have a PC, I have a MacBook, so I do not use any software for the PC to phone synching, and just connect to the phone on my Mac using Doubletwist (which already sucks as there is no way to do an easy sync to calendars, and must go through stupid Google intermediary mail which I also find dumb - but at least I can get my photos and videos and music easily off and on the phone from the Mac. So - can rooting help so that even on my MacBook I can do more things or am I stuck because I use Mac ?? And also how can I ever upgrade firmware or software if I do not have a PC - can one do this by downloading updates straight onto the phone or must I borrow a PC of a friend to do any upgrades ?
