Hello,

I recently purchased an unlocked Galaxy S phone and went on using the same SIM card with the same operator in Luxembourg, i.e. Orange. Before I used to have a Nokia N900, which worked pretty fine in terms of 3G connectivity. However, with the Galaxy S I have not been able to get a 3G connection (all the settings on the phone seem to be alright). Has anyone else had this same problem and do you have any ideas how I could get rid of it? Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.

Hi guys,

What funnydude35 trying to say was,

1) is your WIFI = ON ?
2) because if WIFI is ON, your 3G connectivity will automatic turned OFF
3) WIFI = ON = WIFI icon appear on home screen, 3G icon disappear on home screen
4) WIFI OFF = 3G icon appear on home screen, WIFI icon disappear

Hi, I am currently facing issues with my phone regarding the data connection over 3g or 2g, sometimes when I'm on wifi for a long period of time thee phone actually stops connecting to regular mobile data if I go off wifi.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have the same problem. The only workaround for me is to reboot. Anyone else encountering the same problem and found the root cause ?

I have the Vibrant and my 3G connection is awesome.  Also, my speeds are much improved with the phone as well. I have been averaging 3.7mb down and 1.4 mb up.  This is a huge improvement from my Nexus 1.

Yeah, my 3G connection has improved since I started using it regularly. I had alot of problems initially when I switch between 2G and 3G option in the Setting menu. It normally requires me to reboot the phone to get the 3G connection again after switching from 2G because it somehow couldn't establish a 3G connection. Now, everything works fine even when I use APNDroid to switch off the data connection completely and switch it on when I need to access the data network. The question I have is - does Android phones need conditioning before it works well ? I had the same experience with motorola milestone.

Since you have phone but no data, I would call my provider and have them check my account to ensure that it's set up properly. I've had data problems before and when the account's been reset everything works again.

Hi, I've just had to reset my Galaxy this afternoon as it was stuck on the boot screen (hold the up volume+power/lock screen+home button). After doing this I found I wasn't connecting to the internet via 3G after some investigation I found I had the wrong APN (Access Point Name) in my phone. To find your phones APN go to the settings/wireless and network/mobile networks/Access Point Names.  Depending on your network supplier you may need to add an APN to allow you to use the correct networks 3G signal.  To add an APN press the list button (the button to the left of your home button) then select "New APN".

Here's a link to a site which has a list of the APN settings for various UK networks. http://www.filesaveas.com/gprs.html#voda

I'm on vodafone and set mine as folows using the settings from that website (It worked for me);

Name = Whatever you want to call it
APN = Access Point either contract or PAYG (pay as you go), which ever you're on
Proxy = I didn't fill that in
Port = Port Number
User name = Username
Password = Password
Server = Gatewap (IP) Address
MMSC = I left not set
MMS proxy = I left not set
MMS port = I left not set
MCC = I didn't change
MNC = I didn't change
Authentication Type = I left as PAP
APN Type = I set as Internet + MMS

PS. Dont worry if you don't fill all the fields in when creating a new APN.

I hope this helps  Smile
