Hi there:

I have been reading this thread with interest for the last few days and because of it decided to do some research of my own.  The following link provided me with a lot of information to the extent that I downloaded some of the 'high score' apps to see what they were like.  My eventual choice turned out to be 'Go Launcher' plus some of the 'theme' packs associated with the app.

The theme packs I kept were 'Sketch', 'Ink' and 'Classic'.  After playing around I stayed with a home screen (launcher) in the Sketch theme with the main home screen buttons being in Classic.  Having now experimented and played with the various settings I have a home screen launcher that I am very pleased with.  The stock one is a thing of the past.

Hope this of some help, and thank you for motivating me to do something about my stock launcher.

Further to Post #18, unfortunately no.  That remains part of my learning curve - something that I will attend to soon.

However, to provide a indication of what I do have as a home screen check out the NEW website for Android Market, activated today.  The screen shots (on the left virtually reflect what I currently have; though my Menu, Home, etc., icons are similar to those depicted in the centre screen shot.

On thing I would like to mention is that I have noticed an increased battery life since I made the change.  Perhaps due to having, and using, the 'close all programs' option that is included within the apps icon.

As I mentioned yesterday, I am a happy camper with the change in launcher app.

Still using touchwiz here. I don't know, it works for me. I've tried launcherpro and adw but I keep going back to TW so I uninstalled the others.

By far THE best launcher I ever used on any platform was called Initiate for Palm. Best thing about it was the type-launch feature where you can launch an app, make a call, send an sms, go to a web page by just typing, say, "MNP" which launches monopoly or "RBM" which would take me to the sms thing for Rob. But, again, this works best with a keyboard.
