Hi All,

This one installs ok but every time I try to use the video skype function, the entire phone screen just goes black and it then the program crashes. all other functions in the program work fine.

Any thoughts?

Hi,

GT-I9000, firmware v 2.2

Yup that is normal. Galaxy S is not tested, many have it working but they have gingerbread.

Peace.

Ok, so should I change over to gingerbread or will I be replacing one set of problems for another?

Is there anyone out there that has Skype video working on a GT-19000, v2.2 or does anyone know how to fix the bug that I am experiencing?

Cheers, Pete'

If you wait Skype will officially release the App for your device.

I don't understand what you mean when you say you will replace problems with another set, what are you worried about.

So far gingerbread has been rather stable, or are you talking about flashing as it is not available in Kies for you?

Peace.

Hi IronSingh,

Sorry, I just mean that I read one of the tutorials for getting gingerbread onto my phone and it just looked REALLY complicated (to me).

All I want to do is talk to my 5 year old daughter who's on the other side of the globe for several more weeks yet and I thought that running skype on my phone would be a simple process. Obviously (as a dad), I don't want to, as you say... "If you wait Skype will officially release the App for your device."......

I don't expect anyone to understand why this is important to me. Guess I'll go buy another phone that can run skype...what a hassle.

Anyway, thanks for your advice.

Cheers, Pete'

I am not a Dad (yet), but I can understand what you mean.

Well if the process seems complicated you could ask what it is that feels complicated about the guide.

I welcome critique in the hope of making the Guide easier to understand.

I try but I know I can't help everyone but the more I can the more I will.

If it is Video chat under the convienince of the phone is your concern then go for the N900 it had this capability stock.

All I did was install Skype and voila.

It is not difficult to implement this stuff, The Carriers and their bureaucracy is the issue.

Eitherway, If you wish to follow my instructions in the guide and have questions please ask.

Peace.

I understand your feeling.

Did you UNinstalled the market version of Skype before installing this one?

Yes, it worked, but video quality is not so good.
