Hello

Every time when I want to add a picture as my wallpaper the system asks me to crop it, but then it doesn't look good anymore, could you tell me why is this happening because the original themes are working ok, but the pictures that I've downloaded are not.

10 minutes ago I could add quite many but now it always ask me to crop...

It thing it has something to do with TWlauncher or LauncherPro...I've uninstalled Launcher pro but still I need to crop the downloaded pics and the camera pics also...

Hi there guys.

I have the same issue. I've read all the posts, but the question that I have (along with everyone else) is still not answered. It's clear that everyone wants to set an image as a wallpaper, and not have it cropped with picture loss or resolution issues.

I put 1920x1200 (even larger resolution) images on my phone for nice high quality wallpapers, and such wide images works nice for the scrolling of the multiple home screen thing. When setting an image as a wallpaper and the orange cropping square comes up, I simply enlarge it to touch the borders and scroll it to capture the part of the image I'd like to use.

BUT, although I'm not over the whole wallpaper scrolling thing when dragging to other home screens, I'd still like to have a static wallpaper from time to time. I'm a "tweaker" (I like to change and edit things often) and I have a collection of very nice 480x800 images that looks great looking at them in the gallery in portrait mode and want to have that image as is on my wallpaper, static. But due to the phones' stupid crop box you can only scale the crop box till it touches the left and right side of the image, and with 480x800 images it then enlarges that cropped part and stretches the pixels and leaves a low quality wallpaper...

I've installed LauncherPro, tested the option of not scrolling, but it still uses the fixed crop box method and just centers the image on the screen, which leaves the same result when trying to use 480x800 images. Using Gimp or Photoshop to edit an images each time, loading them back onto the phone and then testing if it worked is really a tedious process and should not be such a hassle.

Is there no way to re-size the crop box in the X and Y axis independently to crop 480x800, not just in a 960x800 proportionate scale? Or maybe an option to bypass the cropping step to use 480x800 images as is as one static wallpaper?

At your home screen touch edit. You will see all the frames available. Touch the - in the red circle to remove frames until you only have 1 left.

I only see a "+" sign, no "-" sign. However, just touch grey box and drag to trash can. Do this with the box marked with "+" to get rid pf page 2 (don't worry - it returns). That should leave just one page.

This thread recommends holding down the orange crop guide on the imported picture so that you can crop where you wish.  I have tried doing this & even though I can move rectangle around the crop tool won't go over the top edge of picture so that I can select entire photo.  Could it be that I should rotate picture prior to sending to phone since that's the way  the camera displays?

Thanks in advance

hey there guys,

May i ask, what version of android you guys are on?

I am on version 2.3.3 in malaysia, dxjv9, and if i go to my gallery and select a picture, click Menu >> MORE >> SET AS, it comes up with a dialog bx asking " Set picture as 1.Home screen wallpaper  2. Lock screen wallpaper  3. Contact icon.
Now when i select home screen wallpaper,  we have to crop the picture to fit the screen. Agreed that we cannot use the full pic unless its ratio is the he same as that of the screen, BUT, under the cropping orange borders, there are two translucentselectors, one a square and the other a rectangle. Selecting the SQUARE sets the picture for the entire homepages (i.e 3, 4, 5, 6, 7)but selecting the RECTANGLE sets the picture as a static wallpaper ( as per the picture i have attached).

As i said i agree that we have to crop the picture, but we can set a picture as a static wallpaper within adnroid itself without the need of any thrird party softwares.

But yes, i do not recall having this function when i was on 2.2.

i hope that this has helped.

Yes, it is an addition to 2.3.3 (Gingerbread), but it only worked well on default TWLauncher. Other Launcher (e.g. LauncherPro and Go Launcher) blow up the picture.

Lockscreen wallpaper is fine though.

Wallpaper is viewed in the phone when the phone is in portrait mode.  The default wallpaper appears to be in landscape mode since you can scroll right to see more of the original picture which also must have been in landscape mode.

Is the default picture stored in the phone in portrait mode, landscape mode or in panels?

I have seen suggestions that if you want to import a similarly panoramic picture you should make the size the dimensions of the phones display.  Should this picture then be transferred to the phone in landscape mode?

It's also been suggested that when you try to set the wallpaper you hold down the picture so that you get the crop tool which will allow you to select the entire picture.  It doesn't do that when I press on the picture.  I get the crop tool but it doesn't move outside of the original pictures boundaries.

I have version 2.2 installed but have yet to hear if or when the newer version will be released her in Oz.
