I lost some SMS messages due to the 200 limit and they are no longer accessible in the default messaging app or in handcent.  I discovered that the messages are not deleted and exist under the contact history.  How can i get them saved from the phone?  Where are the messages actually located?  While they are not accessible via any SMS backup software or messaging apps I have installed ; they still exist on the phone.

I mistakenly deleted some important text message from my galaxy s3, some people said it was imporssible to recover them, but some people also said there is some app can recover, I was confused, and in the end, I used Vibosoft data recovery for android tool, that's very powerful, most of my message were recovered,

There are tons of ways you can choose to recover data from Samsung phones, and as an old Samsung user for nearly two years, i'd like to share you some pretty convenient ones. After all kinds of comparison, i found this tip very helpful:
Retrieve deleted or lost text messages from Samsung S4/S3/S2

Since you deleted them, you probably won't get them back UNLESS you have a backup in recovery which you can restore that has them.
You can ask for Myjad Android SMS Recovery for help, which can retrieve the deleted messages from your phone.
Keep viewing the video solution below.

You are right. They still exit, but you need to use a tool to recover them. I think the suitable one is Samsung Data Recovery.
1. Run the program and connect your phone to computer
2. Enable USB debugging
After than, you can retrieve SMS messages from Samsung Galaxy

SMS recovery is not possible in Android. Once you delete a message, then the message is long gone without the possibility to recover it. Of course, there are backup and restore applications but Samsung Data Recovery works when you perform a backup of the SMS messages and later you can recover SMS messages on Samsung.
