Hi all, been using the phone about a month or two now.  Been going ok and all, downloaded several apps.  No problem.  Got external SD installed (along with internal).

Suddenly, about two weeks ago, I wanted to download the firefox app.  It kept giving some issue with the download.  It said there was no SD card!!!  I thought it might be a mistake by the developer, and reported it to him.  He seemed to misunderstand me and simply replied:  "...yes you need an sd card to download..."

This I KNEW, and explained to him that I DO have an SD, but get the error.

I just forgot about firefox, and continued using the phone thinking the developer had made some mistake.

Today I tried to download anipet live wallpaper and facebook for android.  Both show the downloading icon at the top, but in RED, and then almost immediately stop downloading.  When I go to them in market, they say "cancel download"....but NOTHING IS DOWNLOADING.

I don't understand?  My videos and photos are being saved on the SD at present, and that seems to work quite fine.  Could anyone advise please?

I've unmounted, removed, and remounted, no joy.

Thanks.
Cheers

Hi all, thanks for the flood of great replies and help!  LOL

Ok, ok, so I'm being sarcastic!  NOT EVEN ONE REPLY in several weeks!  WOW.

Whichever way, no problem.  I've found a workaround that might help someone else in the meantime:

Try going to Manage applications and press menu and set the filter to "all"
then
1) find Download Manager and clear cache or data
2) find Market and clear all the cache

Market will be able to download again.  However, the market will fail to download after couple download, you need to repeat the above step.

So far this worked for me.

Cheers all

The reason that your question did not received any reply is because it had been asked and replied numerous time before.

If you'd had search, you'd had found the answer before wasting a new topic.

Hi Omnian,

Thanks for the info.  I realize I must look like a total idiot, but...I searched this forum for about three days, returning every day, typing in "No SD card error", sometimes with, and sometimes without "market" etc etc etc, and the three seperate days that I came here I could not find a post that helped.  Possibly my search terms were not appropriate, or something else was wrong, but I repeatedly searched for this, and only after searching and not finding, did I post.  Even now, when I search for No SD card error with market, I only find my own post showing up.

Is there some setting that I may have wrong here?  Something that I may be doing wrong in the search?

Cheers

Ahhh, you see how much perspective can influence things?
I never even CONSIDERED typing in market download, as I immediately realized it was the SD card issue, and also, in gMail (on the GALAXY) at the time that the issue showed up, I could also suddenly not download my attachments anymore.  My Galaxy actually said:  "no SD card".  Thus, in my mind, the issue was an SD card one, and the market was only incidental to the issue, since gmail also did it, therefore my search was for the no SD card issue, and that's for what I could not find any solution.
Later, after several days of struggling, I discovered this workaround that I posted, and since running the workaround for the market, my gmail also downloads attachments again...lol.  It's a crazy thing this technology stuff!

Yes, Android is still very new and a lot of work is needed to improve it, especially Samsung.

Glad that it worked for you.

BTW, have you updated to Froyo yet? Have it released to your region? It should be better.

Hi Omnian,

Interesting that you ask.  I've been watching the phone's "ABOUT PHONE" area in the Settings to see the update, but none yet, no.  I remember reading somewhere that folks said you simply need to be online and patient, and it will automatically update to Froyo, but I'm definitely still on 2.1 update 1 (Eclair it seems).

Is this still correct, or should one attempt to upgrade manually?

There's no OTA for the SGS updates, you have to connect to Kies and check the upgrade status there.
