How to change text tone to something you want & not what is already on the phone

Hi all, a samsung galaxy s newbie here, not sure if this has already been asked but I wanna know if the txt tone can be changed to something you want and not what is already on the phone, I want my own tone, also is there a way to add the tone to the text message tone list?

Using "My files" create on the root of the USB storage/Internal SD card a folder named "media", inside that a folder named "audio". In this folder you can create several folders, "alarms", "camera", "notifications" and "ringtones".
Now place the ringtones/alert tones in the corresponding folder and when selecting a notification or runtime you will find yours in there.

i used the steps above to put my tones on my phone that i downloaded :-)
