I take it that both "Car Home" and "Desk Home" disappeared with Gingerbread?  I upgraded my handset and they are no longer installed.  Are they available anywhere to re-install?

Yes there is a difference between the UK and Us Froyo updates. US isn't getting an upgrade because the carriers want to hoard their profits.
