When connecting my Galaxy-S to the Samsung Kies software, my telephone shows up with an incorrect telephone number. I did change the sim-card (and subsequent number) since first using it, but I never logged intio Kies with the old sim-card.

The phone is rooted.

How do I get Kies (or my Samsung phone) to show my current telephone number?

UPDATE: in the phone properties (Menu, Settings, About, Status) the same wrong number is shown.
When calling, the receiver sees the correct telephone number. So the issue is not operator related but telephone related.

I had the same problem and after googling for a while, I've found the following.  It worked well for me:

http://android.stackexchange.com/questions/3072/answer/submit

This is just showing whether your phone number is saved to the phone number description property on your SIM card. Some networks always program this in for you, many don't. Some phones let you write to this property, some don't, some read it, some don't.

It has nothing to do with what actual phone number is attached to that SIM card by the phone company.

It is possible to put your phone number in there, and is easier than you might think:

Go into Contacts -> [Menu] -> More -> Settings -> Own numbers -> [Menu] -> Create and type your phone number into the Number field, now Save.

Then switch your phone off and on again, and it should show the correct number (or whatever number you entered) in the status now.

Hi
I have changed to the orange from o2, and requested that I keep my old number. but it still shows the old number in the status bar. I tried the method that you have discribed but I still am unable to get it to  show my correct number. when I put the old sim in my new phone it showed my old number, and when I put the orange sim in my old phone that showed the new number but when I phoned my wife it came up as my old number on her phone.

I had exactly the same problem after porting my Virgin mobile number over from my BlackBerry 9300 to my new T-Mobile SGS3.
The easiest solution I came up with was as follows:

1 - Obtain a micro SIM adapter.
2 - Ensure BlackBerry has Network disabled.
3 - Place S3 SIM into adapter then into BlackBerry.
4 - Switch BlackBerry on with Network still disabled.
5 - Navigate to Options>Device>Advanced Settings>SIM Card.
6 - From BlackBerry menu select EDIT SIM Card and input new number & SAVE.
7 - OK out of settings back to HOME screen and turn BlackBerry off.
8 - Take out edited SIM and place in SGS3 - JOB DONE!!!

I hope this helps others with a similar issue.
