Hi,

When I select firmware upgrade from Kies, I get this information:

Model Name: GT-9000
CurrentVersion: PDA:JF3/Phone:JF3

This device's version cannot be updated.

I'm a bit worried:  does this simply mean that there are no updates currently, or there is something special about my device and it will never be possible to be updated with the future firmwares?

I think it's just a badly worded / translated way to say that there are no updates available at this time.

Switch Kies to Korean language and use a translator (or someone who speaks Korean) to find out the original meaning Wink Wink Oh and also ask what "Kies" means, might have some Korean meaning...

Hi,

I am getting this same message when trying to upgrade. According to my phone I am on v2.1 (Eclair?) and I should be able to upgrade to 2.2 (Froyo) as far as I'm aware but I get the exact same message as above??

Any ideas why it is?

upgrading to 2.2 is only available somewhere in september,..though there is a BETA version somewhere online

you are better off waiting untill the official version is released

This might help.  If you unlocked the phone, insert a sim card of the original service provider it used to be locked to.  And also, unload any home screen customization that you are using if ever you are using one.  Revert to the stock home screen.  Do all these before connecting to Kies.

Found this out when I had the same problem.

I was at JF3 for ages too (bought end July), but finally now I have JM2 (Europe, factory unlocked, finally in October). I guess patience really is a virtue !

I have the same message, I even did a hard reset to try and upgrade but it doesn't seem to do the trick.

If someone who actually did the upgrade could verify if this message is normal.

Hi,

Kies reports "This device's version cannot be updated" if LagFix is applied to phone.

Remove LagFix and repeat upgrade.

Hope this helps.

not 100% correct...

"This device's version cannot be updated" is a terrible translation (hurrah for samsung which can't write proper english) for "There's no update available for the current rom of this device".

If an update is available, it will be shown even if the device has the lagfix... but you're right on one thing: uninstalling the lagfix before proceeding with the update is HIGHLY advisable for otherwise it could screw something up  Wink Wink
