Long shot - Can you use system restore to return to a point when KIES was working and then try uninstalling again? See if the installer falls over during uninstall. If so, can you restore to a point before KIES was first installed?

If not - Does it get to step three then uninstall itself like mine was doing, or does it fall  over earlier than that?

If it gets to step three but won't reach 4, have you tried the tracert test above to check whether you are able to reach the server the installation requires? If you can't get through to it then your broadband provider isn't providing a route to that host and you need another one, so set the phone up as a modem and disconnect your normal broadband, go online through the phone then run the install.

If it falls over before step 3, does it run at all, do you get to select the country?

Have you checked in control panel / programs and settings / installed programs, does it show whether there is a version installed? If so can it uninstall there? (I take it not).

Does the directory "C:\Program Files\Samsung\Kies" exist? And, run regedit, and press F3 searching for kies. Is there multiple Kies entries?

If either of these is so, it sounds like the uninstaller didn't work for some reason, and sometimes when this happens if the uninstaller runs again it gets confused if some bits it expects to find are not there to delete, so it runs away and hides instead of finishing the job.

Revo should have found it, but if it hasn't then you need to try a registry repair utility (I don't have any preferences here, unless someone has other ideas search for one on the internet (be careful which you choose, start with CNET or TUCOWS).

Failing that, you will have to do a manual deletion of any directories and registry entries relating to KIES, reboot and try again.

I have uninstalled Kies from Add/Remove Programs, but Windows did not manage to remove it properly.

Then I have deleted all relevant files & registry key entries and since that moment each time I try to reinstall kies receive the following error:

---------------------------
System Information
---------------------------
UseDLL Failed(FsUsbExDeviceLib.dll)
---------------------------
OK

Problem:
I cant install KIES. Not on any computer. At home i have one XP and one W7, at work i have XP. I get at message that the installation program cant find some of the files it just have unpacked. On ALL three computers. I download the KIES-file from the Samsung site.

Questions:
1) Any suggestions?
2) Do i need KIES? If so, is there any alternatives?

Best regards

I cant install the new version on any computer. Without having a previous installation of KIES. That might put your problem in another perspective. Maby the exe-file on Samsung site is defect? Or maby the new installation-file never have worked?

Sad...

I've tried it over & over again.  The installer gets thru the preliminary steps, 1 thru 4 and then gets hung up on zero percent where it displays the amount of the program downloaded.  Why?

I'm using Windows 7 Pro, 64-bit.  The program installs fine here locally but won't connect to the phone as hundreds of others have mentioned re: the 64-Bit operating system.

But what frustrates me is that 7 Pro has the Virtual Machine ability, which essentially runs Windows XP Pro in a window so that you can install applications that don't like Windows 7.  This is where I am trying to get the installer to run and it won't do so.

It downloads the installer, then tries to d/l the app and never gets past zero percent downloaded.  After a half hour or so, the app installer quits saying 'Installation Aborted.'

So why won't it install?  I have some other programs installed in the XP Pro Virtual Machine, that won't work under 7, and they run fine.  What gives?

Does anyone has idea what does this means??

I was trying to install Kies on Windows 7.  After a couple of attempts I remembered to use compatibility mode.  Just right-click on the program and go to properties.  Then go to compatibility tab.

Choose "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"  and select Windows XP.

I also checked the run as administrator checkbox too for good measure.

Good Luck!

Hi,

I am trying to use my Galaxy as modem for my laptop over USB, by using the PC internet setting.
Btw, if this requires any special downloads, please let me know.

My laptop is running WIn XP pro SP3 (Intel processor).
Since i can not find seperate drivers, i wanted to download KIES.

Unfortunately, i cant get Kies to install.
I downloaded the file Kies_1.5.1.10074_2_6.exe (145.344.072 bytes)

When i start the installer, it tries to download dotnetfx35_x86.exe. The download however, stays at 0%
After a few min, it continues with OutlookAddins, but then, after another few minutes, it crashes with the message : dotnetfx35_x86.exe is not a valid Win32 application.

To make sure there was no download error, i downloaded it 2 more times, both directly from Samsung, but all with the same error.

COuld it be that the installer is bugged? Because i already have dotnet 4.x running, so basicly it shouldnt even try to install the older version.

Anyone else recognize the problem?

cheers.

There are many pages on the horrors of Kies. Lots of people have had problems downloading it from Samsung then when it is downloaded it doesn't seem to work well. Kies is focused towards the Bada system but SGS users need it to do firmware updates. All I can suggest is saving instead of running to see if you can download it. Once you get Kies installed make sure to remove any files with extensions over 16 characters before you try connecting with Kies.

If you can connect your device as a mass storage device you are part of the way there. See these instructions for directions as you at least have USB drivers.

For those who still have problems:
I just noticed that today, Samsung has put a new version of KIES online. 1.5.3.10093_31_1
I have downloaded it and i am installing now.

So far it seems to download without problems, although it goes slowly. WMFdist11 download is now at 35%.

Let's hope this version can put an end to all problems.

I'll let you know if it's installed.

update: INstalled without errors and working without problems.
