Got the same problem. I had Kies Kies_1.5.1.10071_32 installed.

Today  for the last 6 hours I have been trying everything possible to install the latest Kies but to no avail.

After a little while the installer comes up with an error message: "Unable to launch Kies Uninstaller" even though Kies has been completely uninstalled. I even cleared the register of everything Kies and Samsung.

Still nobody with a solution for this?

I will contact Samsung tomorrow and see what they say. If no easy solution, then this was my last piece of Samsung hardware.

Btw I have a PC running Vista 64bit.

Guys I managed to get it to complete step 4 finally.

Samsung can no longer host WMF 11 for download so when installing if you dont have that it will hang and abort instalation.

Download WMF 11 here

http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Windows-Media-Format-Runtime-11-Download-40238.html

install it.

Run Kies installation.

Good Luck.

First of all thanks for helping out with this!

Unfortunately it did not work. Just when it looks like the self-extractor finishes an error message pops up stating "setup error- not enough storage is available to process this command."

Seems Microsoft came up another bs reply...  Angry

Still better was the answer from Samsung though; on my email stating that I can't install a new version of Kies because the something seems to be left of the old version and I can't get rid of it, their answer was "just uninstall the old version and install the new version of Kies."

Hi All,

have just purchased the new i9000. Am trying to install Kies on my PC and get to step 3 only. Pop-up screen appears and requests a drive to select for the Windows Media Format 11- but it only allows me to select the CD rom drive which is the installation CD, Which obviously doesn't work, so thats as far as it goes... i have been unable to find any online fixes.

Advice?

Hi All

I have installed Kies on 2 different PCs, both running Vista.  One it worked the other it didn't.  The solution that  I came up with was as follows.

Completely uninstall any version of Kies that you have tried to install previously, through the add/remove programmes option.
Completely remove any Samsung drivers that you can see via the above method.
You then need to remove any other Samsung drivers that may have been installed, via a driver device removal programme.  I used Hardware Helper (which can be foud via Google).
Run Registry mechanic (or something similar) to fix any registry issues.
Dowbload the very latest copy of Kies from the Samsung website (1.5.3..... ending in 100).
Run the installation file.  Once you have got past steps 1-3, at step four start the installation and walk away from you PC for about 50 minutes (it takes that long to install the programme and drivers).  Do NOT touch you PC, as Kies seems to be very sensitive about running other programmes during the install.
Once the install is completed, ensure you Galaxy S is set to kies in the USB settings (found in Settings-About phone).
Start Kies, when up and running plug your phone in by the supplied USB cable.
Let Kies install the required drivers (these should be a samsung android driver, a CTC driver and a MTP driver).
Hopefully Kies will now detect your phone.

incidentally, this method worked for any colleague of mine who is running windows 7.

have had problems with Kies on and off for over a year. I have found that the simplest solution is to dump Kies altogether.
I now synchronise my Outlook Calendar with Google Calendar ( you must already have a Google e-mail to use Android ) which I find is actually quicker than Kies ( on the rare occasions Kies worked ).
I have also bought an external SD card for about £6 and have set the camera to store pictures to the external card. I have also copied all my music onto this card as well.
It takes seconds to open the phone and remove the SD card for transferring onto my computer via a card reader - and the phone stays switched on during this operation. I then use whatever software I want to simply copy and paste pictures/music onto my PC. Much better than getting frustrated with Kies.
