Kies will not synchronize phone contacts

Hello

I have just upgraded my phone firmware to 2.2 - BUJP7 using the latest version of Samsung Kies.
The phone connects to my PC via Kies okay, but when I try to synchronize my contacts I get the rather unhelpful message: "Failed due to Error". The PC is running Windows 7 64-bit.

Possible issues might be:
1. My contacts are already synchronized to my Google Account using "Accounts and sync" on the phone.
2. I have a number of linked contacts on the phone.

Is anyone else using a similar PC/Phone setup successfully?
Any help in diagnosing the problem would be much appreciated.

Quick update on this problem:
In spite of there having been three updates to Kies since my original post, I still cannot transfer contacts between phone and PC. I have eliminated Windows 7 64-bit O/S incompatibility as the problem as installing Kies on an older machine, running Windows XP SP3, I still cannot transfer contacts between phone and PC. My only conclusion is that there is an incompatibility between the phone firmware, version 2.2 and the recent Kies updates. What I can't understand is why such an obvious problem has not been quickly fixed by Samsung, or at least flagged by other users? Am I really alone in having this problem? Are Samsung really unaware that there is such a basic synchronization problem?

I am facing the same problem. Kies does not load contacts from the phone apparently due to some error.

My phone has become slow after the firmware update and I wanted to do a factory reset as advised elsewhere on this forum. I hence wanted to backup my contacts, but am unable to do so now.

Can someone suggest what can be done?

There are many methods to backup your contacts, like synchronizing with gmail, facebook etc, but one easiest method that I used is posted on #20 Here.

I am also experiecing this problem. I tried sync with outlook but it´s not a real sync since it doesn´t update my info.

Having the exact same problem with kies. Withe the old 1.5.***** version and the new versions. Have preinstalled froyo 2.2. Got it this year and haven't been able to backup through kies. Shitty piece of software....

the sollution posted in this topic does not backup with photo's....

I am facing exactly the same problem. Even I have updated my phone's firmware to Rev 2.2 and Kies software to Rev 1.5.3.
Looks like compatibility issue, Samsung should do something about it

Did anyone got any update regarding the same? People should come out and complain about it

It´s really annoying not been able to have a real sync. The only way it works is with gmail contacts. But that means have have to keep both updated and be very meticoulus on what Input on gmail and Outlook. It´s working with two programs.
It really sucks that Kies promotes sync with outlook when that is half the truth.

after I downgraded to a very early version of kies, I could backup stuff. I'll have to resort to Odin for updates though

Same problem, use the sync on contacts and nothing gets synced on home new PC or work PC. When I try & look using Kies i can see photos, songs, pictures but it gives me an error that Kies has stopped loading contacts?????

guys,

i had the same issue with kies not reading my contacts. It would see the phone and pictures ect but would do nothing with the contacts. This has something to do with upgrading to Froyo2.2 because it happened just after.

to get the phone to work i had to delete all my contacts on the phone and then it would connect to the contacts I then restored all the phone contacts by using my last contacts saved file.

The trick for some reason is you need to erase all the saved contacts on the phone first.

Yeh,
problem occurs when you have addedd new contacts that will not be on the last backup.
I followed advice from admin and exported to sd card as .vcf and then imported onto another platform. If I can replicate that approach with 100% accuracy then I will try that on the Galaxy before I have to perform a hard reset as a last resort. Downloading apps cost $$ as bandwith isnt that cheap.
